    Chapter 6

I am sitting at home, thinking back about my conversation with Bette earlier this afternoon. To say that she was surprised would be an understatement. We had both just sat here for a few minutes looking at each other. I was waiting for her to say something, but I could tell she was in shock, and was trying to comprehend what I just told her. She looked at me one more time and then just got up and walked out the door. I followed her, and I saw her leaning against a car, smoking a cigarette.

Bette. I am sorry for springing all that on you, in the church, I know this is a very tough day for you, and I only made it tougher I said. Are you really my sister?

She asked. I looked her in the eyes, I couldnt help but think we have the same color eyes, and we both show our emotions through them. Yes, I am and it is a long story on how & why we have never met. I said. This is so unbelievable, I dont know what to say, she said.

I asked her if she wanted to go somewhere and talk, She replied I have to go and meet the girls, After Danas luncheon, they were going to go and spread Danas ashes, by a beautiful waterfall Dana always loved.

Bette asked me where I lived, and If she could come by early evening, so we could continue our conversation, I handed her my card with my address and phone number, She told me she didnt live far from me, that she would see me around 5:00 p.m I watched her walk around to the drivers side of the car and get in, As she started the car, She turned and looked at me and gave me a very small wave, and drove off.

The knock on the door brought me back to the present.

I walked slowly to the door and opened it, Bette stood there looking a little more self-assured of herslf  then she did earlier. I could see the determination in her eyes, that she wanted answers.

Hello Bette Please come in, May I get you a drink? Coffee tea water, something stronger? I do have wine.

Bette answered, A glass of wine would be very nice, thank you. I could feel her eyes on me, as I walked to the kitchen to pour the wine, I was starting to feel nervous. I am still trying to adjust to the fact that I have a sister, I grew up alone, and this was an adjustment for me as well.

I handed Bette her wine, and sat on the chair across from her, where do I start? I need to tell you Bette, Up until 8 months ago, this was all new to me too, So please understand, when I tell you, I dont have all the answers either, and we may have to find out the rest of them together.

Bette sipped her wine all the time watching me, finally she said Lets start with my mother, I have believed my mother was dead for the past 25 years, After my Mother left when I was 9, My father told me she died in my early teens,

Bette, I know you loved & respected your father, and you just lost him 7 months ago, and I am sorry for your loss, but you need to know it was because of your fathers power & wealth that kept our mother away from you, and kept you believing she was dead.

    1. I’m so glad that Bette is trying to see if this is really her Mother and sister Hope it come out that she does see her Mother befor it to late. thanks

    2. Hey SG1, I just got caught up with your story and I love every word of it. Your writing powerfully captures the pain and sadness of Dana’s battle for life and her subsequent death. You also did a great job with Dana’s love for her friends. Becky’s shock and mixed feelings are superbly done as well. Now please continue so we can learn of Bette’s reaction to the fact that her beloved Melvin is far from perfect… as Kit has been telling her since S1. I hope to see your next update REALLY soon.

    3. I do like this story and will continue to read it. I only hope that Tina is there to help Bette adjust to her mother, sister and what her father did to her by lying about her mother’s death. Please continue.

    4. Oh, goodness, don’t think because you don’t get comments that it’s not loved…I like it a lot it has some meat to it and can’t wait to see where you take it..new twists are always welcome!!

    5. My goodness, will wonders never cease. This is some knowledge for Bette. Something that she has always wanted and needed and could never have or so she thought. Melvin was a scoundrel, well-dressed, wealthy, and educated but, nevertheless a scoundrel. Thanks for the post. post again soon please.
