    CHAPTER 16
Bette was a tired woman when she finally walked in her office after a long afternoon spent with wealthy art collectors. Her gallery’s latest show, "Wonders of Nature", had been another roaring triumph. However, for the first time in her life, her heart had not been in the meetings but she had put on the niceties for the sake of her career and bank balance.
She slumped in her oversized leather chair and took in her surroundings. Her office was her sanctuary. She relished its quietness and its elegant decor. It was peaceful. The room was strategically lit to enhance the art work she had displayed around her. Each piece belonged to her own private collection and reflected her personality. This room was everything about her and she felt comfortable within it. It helped her relax.
Her eyes stopped on the Yale diploma which hung proudly on the wall on the right hand side of her desk. She had graduated from Art school in the top one percent of her class. She had worked really hard at becoming one of the best art dealers in the country and had major museums calling at her door seeking her expertise. At least this side of her life had been a complete success. She sighed heavily and swung her chair to face her desk.
She immediately saw the little necklace she had left in the middle of the leather pad which protected the top of the desk. Her mind shot straight to the blond woman lying in the hospital bed.  There was a little pendant on the necklace, a letter which she held delicately in between her index finger and her thumb. She brought it up to eye level and looked at it in the soft light coming from her desk lamp. It was silver and beautifully crafted.
"T" she whispered as she simply read the letter.
Her mind was cast back to just two weeks previous. Bette was driving along the coast, night had fallen when she heard an explosion closely followed by a great ball of fire which brightened the night sky briefly.  As she drove further to investigate what she had just witnessed, she came upon the scene of a car crash. A lorry had jackknifed in the middle of the road, the guardrail had been smashed and when she took a look down the ravine she saw a burning car. The fire was so intense that it illuminated the entire surrounding area. This is when she saw her, the woman was lying like a discarded doll a few meters away from the inferno.

    1. Okay, got it now. Thanks for the answers. Brillant!!! Although I wish the events in the previous chapters had “really” existed. But if you think about it, if they had existed, everything would probably have turned out the same way, since Tina’s vision of Bette is based on the “real” Bette talking to her (and about her) on a daily basis. At least that’s the way I see it… Can’t wait to see what will happen when “T” wakes up (Love that everybody calls her Jane Doe when Bette is the only one calling her T. Good one there, K!) Anyway, thanks a lot for this very enlightening chapter!

    2. I must be dense…because I don’t get it. The previous chapters don’t exist?? This is the beginning?? I still don’t understand….not to be confused with me not enjoying it. I’m just not sure what’s going on and where in the story we are. Thanks.

    3. Hi kins, fabulous twists and turns as you reveal little by little of this story. BB, was right on the money with her suggestions about htis great adventure. I do hope that there is some prophetic nature to Tina’s coma dreams as Dana and Bette have become so much of her life there. As for Bette, there is a real sense of sadness and loss about her. Her intervention at the accident has opened up this new world to her. I am sure that Tina’s identify will be discovered sonn however that does not mean a whole raft of friends and family will descend on her hospital room. Some people tread very lightly on this planet so it could just be some work colleagues that are her only additional visitors. And depending how long this coma endures may only visit once or twice. I do hoep for some signs of improvement in Tina’s condition soon. Kins you have written a beautiful and tender romance. long may it continue. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.

    4. There are several ways to identify the owner of the car, even if it did burn. The vehicle id numbers are stamped into the metal in several places and those numbers can be traced to the registered owner of the car. Even if it was a rental, the rental company would know who they leased the car to, thereby giving us an identy of the person. And there are always Tina’s fingerprints which are taken at birth and any time in her adult life that she might have been registered or bonded for things. Fingerprints NEVER change even if you burn them off, they will grow back and NO two people have the same fingerprint, even twins and such. Everyone is different. So there are numerous ways to have an identy of her, if someone would just try.
