    Back Home Again 20

With Angie settled in her bed, Bette retired to the sitting room.

When Tina walked to couch, she couldn’t resist Bette’s extended hand, and joined the other woman, the two of them seated together.

    “Are you okay, T?”

    “It’s been…it’s been a day.”

    “A day at your mother’s.”

“She wanted us to stay, tonight. Well, wanted Angie and I, anyway.”

“I knew if anything could crack that cold exterior, it’d be our little charmer. You could stay with her, you know. I’ll be fine here.”

“No.” Tina snuggled in closer to Bette, giving a slight smile as she felt Bette’s arm encircle her shoulders. “No, I couldn’t. Not until she accepts us as a family.”

    “Are we a family, T?”

“I think we can be. If you want that, of course.” Tina could feel her pulse picking up. Her breathing, also, was starting to increase. “I thought that was… I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have presumed.”

Tina attempted to pull away from Bette’s grasp, only to find the other woman holding on more tightly.

“Tina, please. Relax, sweetie. It’s ok.” Bette’s hand lightly rubbed up and down Tina’s arm. “It’s okay.”

Concentrating on becoming more relaxed, more centered, Tina controlled her emotion for the next words. “So you do want us to be a family?”

    “More than anything, baby.”

“I told my mother that unless she accepted us sharing a bed, we weren’t going to stay under her roof.”

“I’m sure that went over well.” Bette’s dry delivery caused each woman to smile.

“But Bette…” Tina bit at her lip, worried how the other woman might take the rest of what she had to say.

    “Yeah?”

“I’m… when we get back… I’ll still have my loft.”

    “I know, T.”

Easy acceptance, especially for Bette Porter. The lack of a struggle on the point of what happens next, a point that had been concerning Tina for much of the day, helped her to feel more confident that she was making the right move with Bette. The two of them, moving forward. She just didn’t want things to happen too quickly. “I just want us to be right.”

    1. pseud, glad I could lend my support. Thanks for the dedication — it’s unexpected and appreciated. I always enjoy reading your stories and as usual look forward to reading more when you’ve got the time.

    2. I am saddened that this story has come to an end but extremely happy that it ended on a positive note. Talking and starting slowly is the key to their success.

    3. Sorry to see this one end but at least it is at a place where we can surmise the happy ending for them all. Feel free to write a SEQUEL if and when you have the time. Enjoyed it so much. Always want our girls together.

    4. Pseud, you did a fantastic job here, bringing us a different new beginning for B&T and including all the shapes that Tina may have as a person, due to the way she was raised. As for Angie, melting her grandma, it is absolutely true. Children can soften even the wildest parent you could ever have. Grandchildren always smitten their grandparesnts. B&T not only have found their way back to each other, but also as a family. Their future is what they make of the present to get together as a family. Thanks for this beautiful and thoughtful journey you brought us along. Obviously, if there is a SEQUEl, we would certainly love to see it coming. Otherwise, you made a terrific job at telling us your story. Sincerely, Lucero & Marsha (JC’s Salsa Aunties)

    5. Hey Pseud, Wonderful and hopeful ending to this terrific tale. Bette and Tina back together beginning to rebuild and share their life together. Angelica is the centre of their universe but good to see that Tina’s Mom might have a place there too. Perhaps as a comet that visits every once and awhile bringing great excitement to her grand child’s life. There was just the perfect sense of a fresh and exciting start for Bette, Tina and Angelica, A family reunited and reborn. Thank you so much for sharing this awesome talent you have, with me. Your Loyal Fan.

    6. Hey! Scrap metal is no longer to be looked down upon. Major vandalism is being done for it these days. Doesn’t mean you can’t feel that way about Jodi, though. See you when you get back.
