    Backstory ~ Chapter Two

As we left our favorite family at the end of Chapter One:

Bette was surprised at the sound of the bell, since no one was expected.  She looked at her watch.  It was almost, but not quite, too late for visitors.

    Angelica ran to the door.

“Boo,” Bette warned, reminding the little girl that she was not permitted to open it.

Bette headed to the door herself, the little girl following close behind.  Angelica stood right behind her mother’s legs so that she could lean around and immediately get a good view of the late night guests.

Bette pulled the door open and instantly saw the large group that covered the porch, the steps, and even the path leading to the house.  She looked down and saw at least twenty-two yellow eyes staring at her, from long muzzled furry faces.

    “Wolves!” Angelica happily squealed.

Bette called back into the house, “T, it’s for you.”

    Backstory, Chapter Two

Tina walked out of the kitchen when she heard Bette, “What did you say, babe?”

    “You have guests.”

Tina looked at Bette, confused not only because there were unexpected visitors so late in the evening but also by Bette’s odd phrasing.

Angelica stood to the left of the doorway, Bette’s protective arm restraining her from bursting outside to get a closer look at the eleven visitors.

Bette moved to the side when Tina arrived at the door. As Tina stepped to the doorway, her gaze lingered for a moment on the worried expression on Bette’s face before she faced the guests.

The matriarch had been planning this moment for years.  As Tina stepped into view, her mother scrunched her front shoulders, lowering her head as she gazed upwards, flattening her ears backwards.  Her mate stood alongside, focusing protectively on her much more than on the daughter he had not seen in two decades.

Tina was stunned and speechless.  She had longed for this moment but had never imagined it would ever happen.

She stared at the two guests standing directly in front of her on her porch in West Hollywood.  She finally fell to her knees and, pulling the guests’ heads towards her, she buried her face in the fur-clad necks.

    1. Giggled right through the story. The visuals are so funny – and so specific. All details are natural, except, of course, for the wolf part. Which is also quite natural. Thanks Spumoni.

    2. Ah-OOO! Wolves in West Hollywood….AH-OOO! this is such a cute story, and I love how Bette is just taking having the in-laws to visit in stride. I can just imagine calling a takeout barbecue place at 11:30 at night and ordering 27 whole chickens and 11 racks of ribs! good luck getting that! Did Mama and Papa also bring wolf dollars? it was so cute how Bette was hiding her jam. I don’t know this brand, but I highly recommend raspberry jam as much better. But wolves don’t eat jam, she needn’t worry! Her rescuing the pup was so cute too. I read the other day that wolves show acceptance and affection to each other by chomping (not biting with teeth) on each other, but I guess you already knew this, as you had the pup chomp Bette. Love this story, do post again soon!

    3. Let me know where to meet for the group therapy ’cause I’m loving your twisted little tale! Bette is such a good wife… trying to fix the in-laws a nice meal. I’m hoping you’ll continue as this was a good laugh from start to finish.

    4. “Baby, twenty-seven chickens and nine full racks of beef ribs. No sauce.” … the Lupi-Kennardis are keeping kosher?…Love your invention! Thanks!
