    Becoming Dana Fairbanks Chapter 11

    Chapter 11

"… So how about Saturday? I know this really great seafood place up in Santa Barbara. I can pick you up round 2 o’clock and we can drive up and just hang out for the afternoon and have dinner." Dana paused and shifted the phone slightly and then glanced at herself in the mirror. "Great! I will see you then."  With that Dana sat down on her bean bag and looked at the phone in her hand.

"See that wasn’t so hard," Dana said to herself with a smile. But the smile quickly faded, "now all you have to do is actually call her for real."

After Bette and Tina’s house warming party, Dana had called Jamie and asked her what she should do about the whole Lara thing. Frustratingly, Jamie just kept asking her the annoying question, "What do you want to do Dana?"

After about an hour of hashing and rehashing out arguments for and against calling Lara, Dana decided she would call the chef. "After all," Jamie had said approving of her shy friend’s decision, "it is not like you have to fall madly in love with her. It is just one date. Worst case scenario? Nothing happens, and you end up catching up with an old friend and one nice night out."

Worst case scenario, I look like a loser and Lara tells everyone what a loser I am and I never get a date for the rest of my life, Dana thought standing up to pace.

Catching her reflection in the mirror, Dana shook her head.

    "Just dial the damn number."

Walking over too her desk, she pulled out the business card Lara had given her four days ago.

    She dialed.

The first ring actually startled her and she quickly looked around to make sure no one in her empty dorm room had seen her.

By the third ring, she was ready to hang up figuring it wasn’t meant to be.

"Hello," came a voice over the phone.

"Umm…HI. Lara? This is Dana…. Fairbanks… um.. yeah."

"Well, hello Dana Fairbanks," Lara said in a pleasantly surprised tone. "I was just thinking about you."

    1. LMAO! ‘Now all i have to do is actually call her’ That was great, i’m really liking that Alice and Dana are on the friends level and Dana is getting more comfortable around her new friend while still managing to be her clumsy, cute self. Another excellent post A, thanks so much

    2. Glad to see Jamie was there to help D figuring out what she wanted. D was true to her form when asking Lara to go out. lol. It was still early in the game. Therefore I wouldn’t mind D dating other people. It would be good for her. I am very happy that A & D were becoming good friends and were hanging out together. The coffee comment was funny too. Keep up your good work, anionayo. Thank you.

    3. Dana asking Lara out is one of my favorite non-Danish moments on the show. The whole scene was funny and cute, but the “No problem” at the end is priceless. I’m happy for Dana, she needs some action, lol… Seriously, it’s only a date, it doesn’t have to turn into something more, right? …”I don’t speak athlete”… “The h-word. You know I hate that word”… LOL … Alice rocks!!! And so do you!!! Post soon!!!

    4. Dress run phone call — too funny! The real call was perfect. You have a great handle on this young Dana. I love those touches you do with her. You are also doing an amazing job with the Alice/Dana interaction at this stage. Love Sam and how it shows how relaxed Dana is when she is in her element. Can’t wait to see what you have next! Thanks so much for this funny and sweet story!
