Becoming Dana Fairbanks Chapter 19
Chapter 19
The next morning was pleasant as the two Fairbanks siblings ate Cheerios while sitting Indian style on the floor with their backs against the coach and watching the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Once Angel Grove, and the world (of course), was saved by Zordon, Alpha 5, and the colorful banned of morphed teenagers from the evil scheming Rita Repulsa and Lord Zed, Dana announced it was time to go.
“The Green Ranger is the coolest, isn’t he Dane,” Howie asked as he clicked his seatbelt in place.
“I don’t know, How… the Pink Ranger is pretty cool,” the brunette replied pulling into traffic while thinking that the pink clad superhero wasn’t so hard on the eyes either.
Great Dane, now you think that characters on a kid’s t.v. show is hot. You’re such a nerd.
Howie scrunched up his face in disgust, “Tommy is soooo much cool than Kimberly, everyone knows that Dane.”
After half an hour of rather heated debate about which Power Ranger was cooler, Dana decided to act like an adult and call it a draw- that the Green and Pink Rangers were equally awesome. This truce however did not stop each sibling from thinking they had won the argument.
Switching topics abruptly as only a ten year old could do, Howie asked if next time he came to visit Dana they could go to the arcade again with Alice.
“Sure How,” Dana replied with a smile as she recalled Alice struggling not to drop the f-bomb in front of Howie as ninjas proceeded to kick her nunchuck wielding turtle’s ass. “I think that can be arranged.”
“Alice is so cool. I have no clue why she is friends with you,” he said with a sly grin.
“Spaz.”
“Loser.”
“Dork.”
“Nerd.”
“Geek.”
**
“Mom, we’re home,” Dana said as they walked into the house a full fifteen minutes before they were supposed to arrive.
“Oh good,” Sharon replied pleased at the early arrival. “Howard, please go take a shower and get ready to go to the dentist.”
“But mom I smell fine,” the young boy complained.
“Howard.”

More Danish! Yay!! So excited to see a new chapter from you! It’s a great end to a three-day weekend. I have had that same Power Ranger argument. All the Howie/Dana stuff was great — very sibling-y. Love the detail of Alice trying not to swear in front of Howie. You did an amazing job conveying that feeling of moving from “childhood” to “adulthood” that you get from moving out of your parent’s home. I like how you wove Melanie into the story. Everyone’s opinion on Dana’s coming out seem so true to their characters. Thanks so much for the update, anionayo!!
i havent commented on this one yet but i absolutely love it and have been following it for awhile now. you write the character really well and i look forward to the slow development of the danish relationship–what youre doing is really great. oh and i also liked the whole prelude to howie being gay re: his particularity about his clothing. very cute, cant wait for more!
I so loved the pink ranger too.anionayo08 you are awesome for the power ranger arugement.Melanie into the story. Way to go that was really cool.Love it keep it up
Thank you anionayo for explaining. I am all good now. Bud Light = water, lol. Nice job with this fun update. Same as swismiss24, I, too, continue to enjoy the development of A & D’s friendship. Looking back to the beginning of this story, D had already come a long way with her gayness. I am positive that you will bring her out of the closet with care. Great post and looking forward to more.
ECHOOOO! WHere the heck was i when you posted? FYI: I think i could beat you by more than 50 seconds or whatever ;)…Excellent update i’m seriously loving the growing up stage/thinking..whatever process…Is it okay to say that i had a HUGE freaking crush on Kimberly, right on D! You know i was the pink ranger…at Halloween, LoL. Awesome job anionayo, looking forward to more greatness!
