Of course you do. You know that makes me crazy. But we haven’t been together yet, so you don’t know just how crazy it really makes me.
What’s that mean? You mean we haven’t made love yet?
No, this is at the beginning. We’ve only talked, haven’t even told the other how we feel.
But we know.
Yes, I know how I feel about you, and I can tell by your letters and the sound of your voice when we talk how you feel about me.
So why haven’t we told each other?
[A big sigh.] You know why. Now let me continue, please.
All right, off to the opera it is.
Fine.
Which one?
Which opera? Um, I hadn’t thought about that.
Shouldn’t it be a tragic one? One that makes me cry and weep on your shoulder?
Uh-huh, I’m not talking about the Bugs Bunny opera from the Looney Toons cartoon.
[Laughter.] Shut up! I know something about opera.
Okay, give me a title of one and a synopsis.
Well, I can’t remember the name, but I know a movie was made about it.
That helps.
Let me think a minute. Um, so there’s a woman. She has like tuberculosis or something, and she’s sort of loose and–
A whore?
No, stop. Not a whore. She’s like a kept woman and she falls in love with a man and is willing to give up all her riches so she can be with him, but–
La Traviata.
Huh?
You’re describing La Traviata. It’s very famous and the film you’re referring to is Camille with Greta Garbo.
Yes! That’s it. She was sorta hot in her time, don’t you think?
Who? Garbo? Really?
You don’t think so? I like that classy butch look, you know, with a little softness around the edges.
You’re impossible.
[Giggle.] Yes, I am, but I knew an opera, so there!
[Groan.] Okay, you knew one opera, sort of.
Wait, I know the one about the barber, too. You know the one that goes, “Lalalala…la la.”
[Chuckle.] Yes, honey, that’s “Largo al factotum.”
Say what?
[Another chuckle.] From the opera, The Barber of Seville.
Well there you go. I know of at least two operas.
Then I stand corrected. [Stifled laughter.]

This piece was something I wrote in a writer’s workshop this last summer, and the goal of the exercise was to see how much characterization a writer could communicate through dialogue rather than description and exposition. Of course, kinky me had to make it about sex. Imagine the awkwardness when the group work-shopped the pieces and we had to read them out loud! I was one very red-faced BenMac! I didn’t write it originally as a TiBette story and hadn’t planned on posting it, but I felt like celebrating. So hence the revision. Have fun reading it.
I loved it. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. That must have been a very interesting class and highly successful. There is a book titled “The Ladies Sewing Circle” that mentions quite a number of actresses in Hollywood that were either lesbian or bi-sexual in the heyday of Holloywood. Very interesting. This was a delightful story, very sensual and it captured the girls characteristics as we saw them on the show. As soon as I saw the first giggle, I knew who was talking when. Tina always giggles and so does sweet Laurel, apparently that is a trait of hers and was not some stage affectation by some director. Lovely. Thanks for posting. Come back when you can.
Thanks for your story, you know when I read that you wrote one new story gave me joy and sadness to see, but thanks us laugh, I would like a new history of more than 100 chapters and where tub is the alpha female and bette be a pussy whipped, I would like a story of drama and comedy, and lots of love and jealousy and without men fools course! I thought it was amazing and clever. I guessed w/i the first page who was who but I don’t know if clues were added so soon into the story. I thought you showed great understanding of the characters and how they would speak, what they would say. Just a delight to read. Thank you.
So great to see you posting! I always let out a happy squeal. If the point was communicating characterization through dialogue, that was a very, very successful experiment. I agree with the others, feel free to experiment on us anytime you want!
BM, I find it really fascinating that you can convey so much about the characters through conversations and conversations alone. Without the description of their expression and movements, the readers wonder what the situation really is, what they are doing, are they physically together, and it turns out that they were phone calls! I think this idea is brilliant! It would be something I’d like to try out sometime. You truly inspire me! Lots of Luv.

I’ll post a photo of Garbo as Queen Christina of Sweden (a known lesbian) on twitter for you. She (a Swede) along with Dietrich (a German) and a few other actresses of their generation often cross-dressed. On top of that, their personalities were very strong and powerful. So Garbo wasn’t considered a butch as we envision them today (from Stone to Boi and all the in between) but she had a “classy” butch personality as Tina says in the story. If you think about it, Bette’s character in TLW is just like that. On the outside she’s a fem, but her personality makes her a “classy” butch in a way. That was the point Tina was trying to get across.

What a treat! Though, you never disappoint, my friend. The rating should’ve been warning enough, but in my impatience (and lack of free time these days) I read this while on break at work. Wheeeeew! HOT!
Oh, and I knew Bette was in bold print even before the Saab hint. Let’s just say, I know my Bette Porter, or maybe it’s that you write so well there’s no mistaking her or Tina.

BenMac, Thanks for your thoughtful comment on my story, Alice Surmises. I think here with your latest you’ve done a good job, no a great job, of building the tension in a love scene by prolonging it over a span of time. I have never done that in one story, but it works well, especially with those two. I’ve written love scenes with them where they’re in the moment, and one of them will flashback to a time before, and fantasize about another time in bed with each other then drift back to their present in flagrante delicto. That method works as a wonderful way to prolong the Readers’ need for a longer experience with them, however; I really like what you’ve done here with a long experience over time using a bedtime story. Interesting and creative.
Writing love scenes, as you know is difficult. On the one hand neither of us are the kind of writers who get slurpy, a description in sex with them I find repellant. It just pops me right out of the story if I hear too much of that kind of thing. But the necessary building of tension to prolong the reader’s experience by getting into the character’s minds, or moving across their bodies through just the right amount of tactile description, AND the tricky part of inserting with perfect timing their dialogue of saying this or that arousing thing to one another – well, as you have illustrated is an exquisite way to write Bette and Tina when they are building up or exploding with their fire.
You know what would be fun? It might confuse our readers, but maybe not, is if you ever had the time to plot out with me a One OFF short series. You write one episode, and I write the next, etc. We’ll probably never to do it, but the thought crossed my mind just now.

Phew! after so many difficulties and my request for
sos with you yesterday, finally finished reading.
Benmac do everything you’d like to try, with our
Bette and Tina, I know it will work ..
It was something totally different from what you wrote, has already
to know who was who in the first chapter.
Two women distance from each other and have a telephone call
making up stories before bed with themselves. and a final
with them together, it was beautiful and seductive at the same time with a dialogue
wonderful without describing the movements of the body, only two
in a telephone conversation.
Loved !! you might as well continue with these experiences.
Not to mention that Greta Garbo was considered one of the women
most fascinating passado.ele century was elegance in person.
