    The First Date

    Helena was stressing out. She had tried like a million outfits and still she wasn’t content with the way she looked. She didn’t even know if she had to dress casual or fancy. She decided to text Bette.

    She pushed send and waited for a replay. After a few moments her cell vibrated.

    FROM: XxX Bette XxX

    Hey,

    Casual is okay but you always look amazing so don’t worry.

    Bette

    She smiled

    Helena (thinking): Smooth, Porter. Smooth.

    FROM: <3 HELENA <3

    Hey,

    I’m struggling with my clothes. How should I dress?

    She smiled and replayed. She was wearing a dress she had picked with the ‘help’ of her daughter. It was white, it was tight around the chest area and it reached her knees. She had decided to just wear slippers. She had a hairband in her hair and a few strays were hanging loose. That would be good for the place where they would go to. She was nerves ‘cuz she wanted their first date to be perfect. Angelica and Manu would stay with Tina. Tina would be picking them up in about 10 minutes. It was 5 PM and Bette was reading a book but she didn’t even know what it was about. Someone knocked on the door. Bette stood up and opened it. Tina was standing on the doorstep looking amazed.

    Tina: Wow, you look nice.

    Bette: Thanks. Come in.

    Bette stepped to the side to let Tina in. Angelica and Manu came running to the door.

    Manu: Mommy, mommy!

    Angelica: Momma T!

    They jumped in the arms of their mom.

    Tina: Hey! How are you two?

    Angelica: I have painting class tomorrow, Mom T. I’m going to paint a bear!

    Manu: Bear!

    Tina: Okay, guys go and play in your room.

    The two kids ran back to their room. The two women sat down. Tina looked at Bette.

    Tina: It’s the first time I’ve seen a hairband in your hair.

    Bette: Yeah, I don’t wear it very often. I thought it would go with this dress.

    Tina: It does. Where are you taking Helena?

    Bette: To the beach, you know, it’s romantic.

    Tina looked a little hurt.

    Tina: To our spot?
