Tina: hmmm hey babe want a canoli…
Bette: I think I’ll go for a salt bagel…
Lexi: then you need cold hard butter for that…
Tina: I was just going to say that…
Linda: me too… I guess it’s a very popular saying…
Lexi just looked at Bette… then at Tina…
Bette: (Spreading the butter on her bagel), then looking up and right at Lexi)… actually its not… right MOM…
Tina and Linda just look at each other… both thinking the shit is going to hit the fan…

Lexi: I hope you will give me the chance to explain Lizzy …
Bette: I’m still sitting here… I could of just turned around when I first saw you…
Lexi: fair enough…
Linda: maybe I should take Tessa and leave you three alone…
Bette: that’s not necessary mom… besides Tina is still feeding her… (as Bette continues to eat her bagel)
Tina: and I was about to hand her over to you…
Bette: Tee… relax… I will give her all of the time she needs…
Lexi: that’s all I ask… where would you like me to start
Bette: how about that night you left me… but any where you are comfortable with…
Lexi took a deep breath…
Abuse has a lot of different meanings… but any way you define it… its not good… when I first met Melvin, he was a gentleman, a sweet talker… he literally swept me off my feet… he loved to hear me talk about my work… my painting was my life… he encouraged me to paint… he was just starting up in his practice… some nights he would be his jolly self… and other nights I didn’t recognize him… when we found out I was pregnant with you… I was ecstatic… he looked at it as another burden… Lizzy please don’t think he didn’t want you or love you… when you were born he was the Melvin I fell in love with… I thought what people would say was true… having a baby brings a couple closer together… things were good… you were growing… and you were daddy’s little girl… he would beam when he came home and you toddled to him… but things changed… that light that he had was fading… Kit didn’t want to go to collage… she wanted to be a singer… he had a fit… he would blame me for encouraging her to follow her dreams… he said “Elizabeth will go to college”… she will follow me… I will have the largest, best firm in the States… he would warn me not to get you involved with my "Painting Shit" as he called it…
Well you had other ideas… you loved following me around and painting with me… I had you’re own little easel set up and you would paint… of course Melvin never knew of this… we would hide it… I made a game out if it… until one day you completed a picture and you ran off with it… we were running late and I had to get dinner… if dinner wasn’t ready when he came home… all hell would break loose… so I didn’t’ check to see if you put your painting away… when Melvin walked in… I couldn’t tell what Melvin was coming home that night… you ran into his arms and told him all about the painting you made… well I then knew… he didn’t say a word to me the entire night… I gave you your bath, read to you and tucked you into bed… I hoped he would be sleeping by the time I went to bed… I was wrong…

WOW!!! I am glad Bette didn’t send her mom away. With all those women in the house they can send Melvin running away and fast. Glad you are doing better. Thank you PPVS!!!

Oh my goodness, I just knew Lexi was her mother but I was wrong about Patrick, I thought he was her brother. Such a terrible time she went through with that bastard. Hope he doesn’t cause a stink in their home because Bette’s mom is in the house. So is Lexi’s real name Maxine, since Kit called her mamaM? Hope Patrick is up to manhandling him but then, Tina could probably take him herself, she is quite a girl. And when she is being protective of Bette, look out she will wipe the floor with him. Course, it takes Peggy to tear him a new behind. Can hardly wait to see what happens next. PPS

So glad that you came back with an update. I missed this story. Sorry I didn’t read it sooner. I went on vacation to North Carolina and experienced a Hurricane Irene. Finally returned back to my current place of residence in Brooklyn New York. This update was amazing by the way. As Tina said- “Let the games begin”.

Wow i’ve just read your 299th chapter without reading the first 298 posts and i can still say that this is one hell of a story:-) honestly the numbers are quite intimidating but i have all the time in the world so i’ll start digging the archives now.lol. Its funny that I can remember No 1 chapter. Each one after that,dont get tocomment anymore but stil on yours. I have loved this from the beginning loved this chapter. Melvin is a grade “A” hole. To even hit a female.but back then she was her husbands she had no rights at all. So glad that Bette has her Mom,and her dad is at the door and S&^it is going to hit the fan. Bet {I hope that Melvinloses} Knowning Tina and Bette I bet he does. So glad that you are feeling better and hope you remain to do do. Thanks for posting bvh
