    BetteWoman – Prologue

    I can’t stand to fly
    I’m not that naive
    I’m just out to find
    The better part of me

I’m more than a bird: I’m more than a plane
More than some pretty face beside a train
It’s not easy to be me

    Wish that I could cry
    Fall upon my knees
    Find a way to lie
About a home I’ll never see

It may sound absurd: but don’t be naive
Even Heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed: but won’t you concede
Even Heroes have the right to dream
It’s not easy to be me

    (Five For Fighting, Superman)

I never paid attention to clichés and overly sentimental dialogues in romantic movies. People say that “you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.” I knew what I had. I didn’t need to lose her to realize how much I loved her, how much I still love her.

I traveled thousands of miles, fought hundreds of vicious criminals, dodged bullets, put out multitudes of fires and wrote thousands of articles all in search of my better part, when she was right under my nose the whole time, right within reach.

But I couldn’t tell her who I was—I was the object of her affection in one universe and the object of her disdain in another.

    Would she ever accept me?

Would she ever see that Batwoman is merely what I do? It isn’t who I am.

My name is Bette Porter, and this is my story .

    2. The Bettewoman wears the suit, the suit doesn’t wear her. While I read it, I was picturing the Bettewoman standing on top of a Gotham City sky scraper LOL. Can’t wait for the next post. Thank you.

    3. Awwww Mav, you’ve got me already. When I read this I could see the beautiful Bette Porter as the BetteWoman, standing tall with those boots to her knees, her dark hair flying in the wind, with her hands on her hips and cape blowing in the wind. Bring it on already!!!! lol
