Bike Ride, Life Ride – Chapter 22

The rest of the evening until the couple went to bed there was a noticeable tension between the two. Neither spoke again of the incident with Jodie, but it was on both of their minds. Bette made up her mind that she would seek the advice of a social worker at the hospital and when the nurse came to do her last nightly check on Bette, she asked to speak to a social worker the following morning. Tina was in the bathroom putting on her pajamas for bed.

When Tina emerged from the bathroom she padded over to Bette’s bed and said “Do you want me to sleep over there?” pointing to the window bed.

Bette furrowed her brow and with a confused look said “T, no I don’t. Do you want to sleep over there?”

Tina answered “Bette, I just want to what is the most comfortable for you…”

Bette said “Tina I am always the most at ease when you are right here with me, next to me. Are we fighting? Are you mad at me?”

Tina said “Bette I am not mad at you. I just want what is best for you. I want you to recover. I want you to be safe and to feel safe. I want to protect you. And I want for Jodie to be punished for what she did you to you. It is hard for me to stand by and do nothing Bette. But I am trying to understand your perspective and put myself in your shoes and I don’t want to do anything to harm you psychologically or otherwise”.

Bette said “T, I need time. I am going to talk to a social worker tomorrow. I asked the night nurse to check in about it and hopefully I can talk to someone tomorrow. I don’t want you to be mad at me or disappointed in me. I just am not ready to go to the police. I don’t know if I ever will be. I do understand your perspective T. If I were in your shoes I would be raging mad at Jodie and I would want to protect you too. Just please don’t be mad at me, ok?”

    1. I guess pay back is no Bette thing, but if some one had did that to Tina,Bette would be in jail for murder, In my mind eyes Tina will get Jodie, and it want be a nice way. Then when Kit learns about it it will be worse. Anyway you look at it Jodie will get her just dues, Tina,Kit orthe gang. Love that Bette did take the first step tho.

    2. Poor Bette she is so fragile. It’s good that Tina got a chance to talk to the social worker now she knows that it’s not that Bette doesn’t want to talk about it she just needs to get over it in her own time. Tina also needs to show Bette as much love and affection as she can so she knows that Tina is not turned off by what happened to her. PPS

    3. Glad that Bette decided to talk to a professional. Tina is trying hard but maybe a little too hard with the jodi thing, but I can also understand Tina wanting to protect Bette.

    4. Geez that was heavy. Did Bette give the social worker permission to disclose all of that stuff to Tina? In what chapter did u disclose about this sexual assault? I seem to have missed something. Thx, a heavy subject to write about.

    5. Good that Bette talked about it to someone. Also I understand why she wanted it to be just between her and the social worker. Sometimes it’s easier to confide into a stranger than into our beloved ones but in the right time she’ll open up to Tina too. Thanks for posting!
