Breathe– Chapter 29
Bette glanced around the room looking for Tina. Finally her eyes found the young woman sitting on the pillowed bench in the bay window.
Surrounded by natural light, Bette was taken by her beauty. If it hadn’t been for the sadness in her eyes, her pale skin, and her knees drawn protectively to her chest, Bette would have thought she was the most stunning vision she had every seen.
Even now with all the challenges before them, Bette knew she was looking at her future. She was looking at what life could be.
In Tina’s eyes she had found herself. In Tina’s heart she had found her ability to love. In Tina’s arms she had found her life again.
“Can it be real?” Bette thought as she watched Tina, her chin resting on her knees, looking sadly out the window trying to be anywhere but here. “Can I love this much so soon?”
After making love to her so sweetly just hours ago, Bette had watched Tina sleep, her eyes never leaving the blonde’s beautiful face.
Knowing she needed the rest, Bette did not reach out but felt she was touching and holding her just the same. Her eyes touched the slope of her nose. Her eyes laid soft kisses on her lips. Her eyes whispered words of love into Tina’s ears.
And then the thoughts began. In the darkness, with Tina’s eyes hidden behind her lashes, Bette could no longer anchor herself in Tina and so she began to wonder what the future would hold.
Could she keep Tina safe? Could she keep Tina alive or was her tragic past doomed to repeat itself again and again?
Could their love endure all this drama, fear and tension? However it ended, would they find their love intact and be able to walk away from this nightmare together?
Would they still love when every waking moment was not filled with drama and threats to their very lives? This surreal environment of death and chaos was forcing them to a higher plane of emotion, feelings and actions.
Would their love be enough when their days were filled with nothing more exciting than waking up and going to sleep in each other’s arms?

Just 3 words FAB – U – LOUS!!! This is a really good chapter! You put it together very nicely. I cannot help but move to the end of my seat as I read each f your chapters. LOL! That’s definitely a good thing! Keep it up! I am loving every word of it!
Sox, another fabulous addition to your story.
Let me say that I so enjoy the balance of B&T’s relationship with the suspense of the mystery. You have successfully maintained the balance in a way I have seen very few accomplish.
Thanks for letting me know that our Bette may not be leaving the force upon conclusion of this matter. I can begin to prepare my mind for that.
I should have brought this up sometime around Chapter 7 or 8, but I felt too embarrassed. Sometimes the details that I fixate on are so small, it seems like a bother to ask you about them. But with much delay, Is Tina also wearing Bette’s shoes? When she found Marcey at the apt, she was coming in from work, as such wearing her shoes. She then travels to Bette’s, but Bette did not grab any of her things from the apt. She’s wearing Bette’s clothes to date, although they don’t really fit. But is she wearing her own shoes, which I would imagine still have blood stains on them. I know it’s trivial, but as I envision the story and chain of events that detail keeps popping in my mind. You can e-mail me and tell me to get over it if you want my address is moho747@aol.com
Alright, back to our current chapter. I am starting to piece together the information that you have provided about our killer to date and juxtapose it against what we know about the others. Let the fun continue!
Thank You.

I’m absolutely enthralled with your story. Excellent writing; I lovit!
Freaking amazing as usual! You have completely boggled my mind. I have no idea who this guy could be. I’m worried that Bette’s zipcode epiphany is misleading because didn’t the guy wait for the newspaper to be delivered to him? I read each chapter with bated breath and absolutley amazed at how intricate your story is. I can’t wait for more!
wonderful as always. I still can’t figure out how he is following them but I don’t think he’s a cop. I will follow you wherever whenever you post. You rock.
This story continues to boggle the mind in its intensity, suspense, attention to detail and expanding depth.
The way that you so innocently interject the subtle details that we will need to recall later is amazing.
Of course we read about how the killer knew which papers were delivered first and which papers might carry a headline if one of the others didn’t…we (and I actually mean myself) were just so taken by your masterful storytelling that it became circumstantial. Brilliant, just brilliant!! I am now looking for my magnifying glass so that I can go back and comb through the previous chapters to see what else you have left for us to discover.
Love isn’t ruled by a timeline. In Bette and Tina’s case it is moving with blistering speed, catapulted by a common trauma – but cheered on by their soul’s destiny. In the end it will be their triumph over this tradedy and the joy in the mundane daily routines that will keep them grounded, knowing that they were the lucky ones.
If the killer was able to reach Tina that easily, I’m surprised that Bette hasn’t thought that he could be watching her.
How many officers were at Tina’s door when the newspaper was delivered? Will there be more than one at the suite in case one of them has to go downstairs to retrieve a delivery? What sort of system of checks and balances are in place to make sure that badges are not counterfeited as well? Wouldn’t it be a good idea to have someone in the vacant suite that’s on the same floor to avoid the possibility of someone getting to Tina from there? What does the killers wife do for a living, could she be an unwitting pawn in this game of his?
Oh the questions…and oh, the delight in seeing all of this unfold!!
A truly engaging story each and every time, Sox. If it were a book, it would be on the top of my best seller list! A ‘must read’, if you will.
I’m finally caught up, but now I may need to go back and start trying to figure out all the clues you left behind. I’m thinking this has to be an inside job, because the killer knows too much to be an outsider. Great job on keeping this suspenceful? Kiitos!
I’m on the edge of my desk chair, truly. You are doing a great job telling this story and getting me all anxious. I kept thinking when they were describing the inaccessibility of the new room – “it’s a Tina trap!” Kind of like the “panic room”. Guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
Oh, and I love the B&T romance.
Chinatown! Chinatown! Chinatown!
I am in such a state of anxiety, feeling that Tina is in peril and Bette may be powerless to save her. I was right there with Bette. Could history repeat itself?
Anguish, I tell you!!! LOL! (at myself)
Forget it Techie, it’s Chinatown…
last night i was aimlessly surfing the fan fiction section, looking to see if the regular authors that I followed post their stories. I found no posting that I wanted to read and idly I clicked on your last posting, chapter 29. And my aimless late night surfing was not the least dissapointing.
Your writing style and the way the story is delivered have captured my attention. so when I was finished with your last chapter, I enthusiastically read your story from the beginning and spend the next 3-5 hours into the wee mornings following your dramatic, detailed ambience and meticulous description of the story. Now, I haven’t been in Seattle but I live just about 3 hours up north of the border and found that yes, I could picture the soothing beauty of the lakes and feel the ambience to be quite similar. Hee hee and I happened to be a big fan of sherlock holmes and CSI. If I were to permanently reside in north america, I’d probably taken up a criminology job just cause. And I’ve always loved wordless communication, where 2 people just get each other and able to put words to the things that was unspoken, even finishing each other’s sentences. Now that, I’d call soulmates or simply, someone who is utterly selfless that s/he is able to gaze to the other person’s being. I apologized for not leaving comments on each chapter, I thought it was unnecessary as I was getting myself up to speed with your stories.
By the way, I found the balance between the drama and the rather gruesome forensic details to be well jugled, not to mention adding a gist of romance and playfulness here and there made it all rounded and just right. Excellent job and I’ve enjoyed each of your postings.
great post!!!!!!!! he won’t give up so easy bette!!!!!
Nice long chapter – which I loved – thanks!.
So much in here. It’s got so much texture and complexity. I can understand that Tina doesn’t want Bette to continue in the Police but after this. I’m not sure that Bette will be able to continue – at least in the serious crime unit. She seems to have joined the force for one reason but that intrinsic reason will have disappeared when this case is over. Will she be able to maintain the distance needed to function in that environment after this case and the changes she has undergone. She is obviously struggling now.
I know Bette seems to have the hotel covered but why am I thinking that “he” will get to Tina? Am I paranoid?
Again really wonderful.
Bette is good and can’t wait to see Bette catch that baster!
