Breathe– Chapter 35 — (I know it’s about time!)
Previously in Breathe–
“It’s me Bette.” Tina responded softly.
Bette closed her eyes and the slightest smile found her lips as she heard Tina’s sweet, soft words. She shook her head in amazement as her stomach tightened and her heart beat more rapidly at the mere sound of Tina’s voice.
“Hi T,” Bette said gently, her voice filled with the raw emotion of loving and longing. “How are you?” she finally asked when all other words seemed to escape the usually articulate detective.
“I miss you, Bette. I know you are needed there, so I’m trying not to need you here,” Tina said quietly, her voice shaking slightly from unshed tears. “But, I miss you.”
Bette swallowed hard and her eyes filled with tears as she heard the pain in Tina’s voice. “I know, T,” she said in a hushed tone. “This will all be over soon, and then we can begin our lives againtogether.”
Bette heard a slight sob escape Tina’s lips and realized just how fragile the young woman was at this moment. “Baby, what is it? What’s wrong?” Bette asked, suddenly feeling foolish for asking such an inane question.
“What’s wrong?” She repeated to herself as she rolled her eyes at the thought of the endless answer to that question. “What isn’t wrong?” she thought. “Her roommate died in her arms, a killer is still after her, and she is sequestered in a hotel guarded by strangers while the woman she loves leaves with no promise of a safe return. What could possibly be wrong?” Bette chided herself and held her breath as she waited for Tina’s rebuke.
Instead, Tina said softly “I wanted to go the apartment today, but the officers wouldn’t let us leave without talking to you first. I knew you wouldn’t want me to go, so I told them not to bother you.”
“You mean your apartment?” Bette asked, thankful the officers on duty had kept Tina from the still blood-drenched crime scene.
“Bette, I am so lost,” Tina began, no longer holding back the tears that had been in her voice since the call began. “I need some of my life with me. Nothing around me is familiar. I am surrounded by strangers,” Tina paused trying to make sense of her words. “I don’t even have my own shoes. Everything I’m wearing is yours. I feel like I don’t exist, like I never was, like he” she finally gave into the tears and cried as her voice faded and she was unable to finish.

I sincerely hope whatever it was that took you away from us for so long….is far behind you. There are people out here that care and are willing to pitch in if you need it. That being said, can’t wait for your next installment. It is time Bette catches that freak….now that she is hot on his trail.

Welcome back! Thank you for sharing your gift with us once again. This chapter had me spellbound. I cannot wait for the next post.
as everyone else has stated – it is SO good to have u back – what a wonderful treat to see your post. I hope this New Year brings closure to your past experience that has created turmoil in your life and I’m glad that you have been able to return to your craft – writing. You are so talented it’s mind boggling. And about Tracy – so so sad, and these words can’t even touch the truth of what her loved ones have experienced. God, life is so tenuous … it must be lived.
it’s pretty insane how one chapter keeps outdoing the last. this was a great read and i hope there is more very soon. thanks!
So glad you’re back with this incredible story. What a great tribute to tbsaver. This story is phenominal. Pleasssse post soon.
you have no idea how much I love this story – welcome back!
thank you. a hug for you my friend.
So glad to see you back Sox! All I can say is that there is never anything jejune about your chapters. I found myself leaning closer and closer to the screen as the intensity increased and at the end I exhaled as deeply as Bette from holding my breath. There is that nano second of realization, when the confluence of fact and supposition become the brass ring. Techno gave Bette just enough time to decompress when she first came into the lab for everything to finally crystallize. It may not be the same as walking and talking to suspects and witnesess, but Techno did just as much investigative work as any field detective, finally providing a key element in bringing things together. The Butcher’s hubris will be his undoing. He is stalking with impunity…for the moment. He and Bette are inextricably connected, and not just because of Tina. Never underestimate the tenacity of someone that has been left feeling like they were a failure. Bette needs to catch him for both Bobbie and Tina. Your attention to detail is never exiguous and you masterfully weave together the warp and weft of each chapter creating a tapestry of intrigue, suspense and a battle of wills. I am drawn each time to the palpable desperation that Bette feels as she hastens to forfend the fate that The Butcher is intent on meting out. Stupendous chapter, Sox!
Great to see you back! Thanks for continuing this awesome story.
I hope that whatever happened gets better for you soon. I love your story and I have missed it. I do hope that they catch him soon. He just snapped Bette’s picture. She was soooo close to him.

Great – you’re back! And with an absolutely amazing chapter too. Your attention to detail is incredible – you must spend ages researching – but amidst all this detail, we never lose sight of Bette’s humanity and deep connection to Tina. Wonderful writing. Hope all your probs are behind you and you’re back to full health. Have so missed this story. A very Happy New Year!

Most excellent to have you back writing. I have certainly missed this story. Progressing well for the good guys currently but I feel that the killer is going to get alot closer than Bette would ever fear before he makes that final mistake. Bravo.

OMG!! OMG!!OMG OMG!!!!!!!! your back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hope you had a great new year!!!!!!!!!!!! post soon
Soxy – brilliant as usual – so detailed and intricate both the emotions and the police work. I am so glad you came back to the story and hope the New Year continues to inspire you to create and also that the healing from the difficulty that kept you from writing continues. You had quite a 2005 with the physical spill and then the writing blocked but I so appreciate your story and even more your spirit so Happy Happy 2006. and keep those chapters coming. bfan

My god I’m soooo glad your back I missed this story so much!!!
pleeeeeeeeeeeeease update soon
Sox,Babydoll, it is just sooo gooood to have you back.Firstly I have been compelled to comment on your wonderful words and lasting testament to TBSaver.I am sure she is looking down on us all with a big smile knowing the happiness, now and perpetually that she has left us with. Her legacy is the knowledge that she has inspired other to continue the good fight and write, write and WRITE.Actions speak louder than words and the quantity of fantastic fan fiction demonstrates this perfectly. On to your story, this latest chapter had all of the ingredients of a first class thriller; you are a master chef mixing them all into a classic and exciting dish; a dollop of dread, a drizzle of disgust, a measure of mystery, a soupcon of suspense, a dash of deception, a taste of tension, a touch of terror, a trickle of trepidation, a handful of horror, a portion of panic, a ladleful of lust and longing, a pinch of passion into this puzzling pot-boiler.This is an edge of your seat ride which always leaves me wanting more.So please continue this tremendous tale and fulfill your fantastic fan fiction.Thank the stars for the people who share their talents and bring enjoyment and pleasure to some many.It was wonderful to see into Bette’s psyche and feel her despair and despondency in doing it all wrong. These moments of doubt make this story real and very naturalistic; everyone has insecurities that will raise their ugly heads and do their worst but will the support of those around you learn to dust yourself off and start all over again. Techno satisfied this role perfectly giving Bette some time out and reassurance that she is doing the right things. Then to have her spot The Butcher, give chase and then lose him bought us right smack in the middle again. This tortuously close shave got the adrenalin pumping and left me breathless for more.Thank you are such inadequate words but all I have to offer as a measure of my gratitude and appreciation.Thank you so very, very much,Your Loyal Fan.PS – After Sunday night’s round table discussion, here was my take.PPS – I am happy that you are fit and well and ready to take on all new challenges. Stay strong and keep on writing.
Oh damn Bette almost got the baster!
