Bette looked at Tina to see her reaction to the shocking news. She said nothing and her face showed only pain.
Alex: What?
Bette turned her attention back to Alex.
Bette: I have to go back.
Alex: Why?
Bette looked over at Tina again as if the eye contact would make her understand.
Bette: Megan broke her leg and Jenn cant do it… long story short, I have no choice.
Alex: Jesus.
Bette: Im sorry T.
Bette stood and walked over to her girlfriend whose expression remained stone cold.
Bette: Please tell me you understand…
Tinas expression was blank.
Bette: T…
Alex jumped in as quickly as he could.
Alex: Of course she understands Bette. Its your career, you have no choice.
Bettes focus never drifted from Tina.
Bette: I need to hear that from her.
Tina: Im sorry but I cant give you that.
Tina stood began toward the door.
Bette: T, please look at me.
Tina turned to face the nervous brunette.
Tina: The public gets you all the time. Why cant I have you for 2 weeks?
Bette noticed a single tear make its way down Tinas angelic face, she felt her heart break just a little more. As she stood to make her way over to the woman who held her heart, Tina turned and walked out the door.
Alex walked up behind Bette and placed his arms around her.
Alex: Shes just disappointed. Give her time. Shell be ok.
Bette: I dont know if I will.
Alex turned Bette toward him.
Alex: Of course you will. What doesnt kill us makes us stronger.
Bette feigned a smile.
Bette: In the ***** world, what doesnt kill us makes us more angry, bitter, and sarcastic.
Alex: Ahh, humor. See, the first step to recovery!
Bette: I hate to ask this, but would you be able to drive me to the airport, I dont think Tina would be so keen on the idea.
Alex: Of course. Ill tell you what, let me get dressed, then you can take a shower while I go find Tina. Ill talk some sense into her.
Bette couldnt respond with words, she gave him a simple hug.
Bette heard her cell phone ringing across the room and she turned to answer it.

Yikes! First, Bette needs to read again the part that says, “if you change your mind.” Second, I understand Tina being disappointed, but the whole reason they are in Chicago is because of Tina’s job. Bette took off two weeks from her own job so she could spend SOME time with Tina, when Tina wasn’t working. It’s not like they are there on a vacation. I think it is very unfair for Tina to hurt Bette like this because Bette is doing exactly what Tina is doing…going to work! I am loving this story, thanks!!

Ah, nothing worst than sudden lows after especially great highs – and a big drama right after comedy, mm ? And our wonderful Flair is such a master mixing that for our greatest pleasure !
Well, even if I can fully relate with Tina being an “emotional cripple” – as the marvellous Alex depicted so well – , because having a romance with someone famous shouldn’t be easy indeed (especially when everything happened so fast and with such an immediate intensity), she must understand as quickly as possible how awfully selfish she is right now. Alex is right (dear, precious Alex !) : Bette’s career cannot be sacrificed this way.
And with the addition of your artful new drama (Amanda’s phone number), there’s currently a BIG risk for Tina to see something desastrous happened like… a similar “carpenter’s affair” ! After all, there’s always Helena somewhere, right ?
So… More than ever, we have to fasten our seatbelts now !

bette has a right to be upset because Tina took the number. If she was not interested she would have left the napkin on the table. What was she thinking? Tina is also acting like a spoiled brat! Bette took vacation to be with her! bette is making an effort. Tina needs to grow up and deal with real life situations. It is only two weeks! Oh the DRAMA! I LOVE it!!!!:)

After the lightness and fun of the last couple of chapters it is brilliant to see the dramatic side reappear again.
So close to prefection and then everything has been turned on its head.
Tina is in Chicago for her job so why is she so unable to see Bette’s committment to her career. I guess Tina needs some time to process what has happened.
As for Bette, defeated, dejected and down trodded at this moment. i am sure her acting talent will create a safety cocoon to show the world she is great.
However she needs to sort things out in her head and then confront Tina with the napkin.
The truth will set them both free and illustrate the depth of their emotions and connections to each other.
Thank you for this latest hiccup in their relationship.

Okay, both Tina and Bette still have to make a living. While I can understand that being in a new relationship, there’s lots of insecurities to be dealt with, jumping to conclusions doesn’t help. Ah, we do love the drama ya? So, keep on writing it. Keep going.

Wasn’t Tina just apprehensive to tell Bette that she had to go away for a couple weeks, but hoping she would understand. I can see being upset, but to take it out on Bette, and not even saying goodbye? I think they are both going to regret their hasty reactions, in the not to distant future. But, the make ups are supposed to be good, right?! (Smile) More please!
