    Bette, Tina, and the rising of the sun.

    Bette and Tina lay panting still wrapped in each other’s arms. Tina had realized during that passionate interaction that she belonged in these arms forever. Bette lay there still and frozen. She too felt the shock between them but she was concerned for their future. How could she possibly give Tina herself completely? She couldn’t, easy as that. She couldn’t risk the career she had worked so long and hard to achieve.

    Tina: Jesus!

    Bette: Not unless making you come is considered a miracle.

    Tina smiled and placed a sweet delicate kiss on Bette’s arm.

    Tina: I wouldn’t call it a miracle, but pretty damn close.

    The two had settled into a comfortable silence when one of the votives went out.

    Tina: It’s amazing one tiny flame can make such a difference when it’s gone.

    Bette: Yeah. It’s dark in here now.

    Tina: Are you afraid of the dark?

    Bette gave Tina a half smile.

    Bette: No, not afraid. I just don’t like it. Just like I’m not afraid of being alone, I just don’t like it.

    Tina: I can understand that.

    Tina sensed something was wrong with Bette. She was afraid to ask. If it was what she thought it was she didn’t want to know.

    Bette: T

    Tina: Yeah babe?

    Bette: Would you still like me if I weren’t on Broadway?

    Tina lifted herself to face Bette.

    Tina: Are you serious?

    Bette nodded trying hard to keep the frown from forming on her face.

    Tina: Of course I would. I think that if we hadn’t met in this life we would have met in another at some point. I believe in destiny.

    Bette: When I told you that I couldn’t be out, I meant it. I still do. No matter how I feel for you, I can’t do that.

    It hurt Tina deeply to hear those words after the intimacy they just shared. But she knew it would come down to this. She swallowed hard trying to make the reality go away.

    Tina: I understand. It hurts, but I understand.

    Bette: Do you really? I mean. Are you sure you can handle that?

    No way! Tina thought to herself. She knew there was no way in ***** she could take seeing Bette with someone else. Or even worse have to watch Bette deny her feelings for Tina.
