Centre of my Universe, Part 20
Previously…
The lovers smiled at each other and then the doorbell rang.
“Oh no, that’d be her. Right on time. I have to rescue her before Alice gets her into her clutches.” Shane turned around to leave, but caught herself in time. “Oh shit, I almost forgot. Max knows about you two !” And with that she left.
Helena laughed out loud. “Oh dear, this is getting better by the minute.”
Bette lifted Helena’s chin. “You mind, Love ?”
“Are you crazy, Bette ? I love it…. And I love you. But if someone had told me yesterday that my dream would come true, I would’ve…
She couldn’t finish her explanation, because Bette took her in her arms again and pressed herself against her lover. “Believe it, Lena.”
And she kissed her, like it was for the first time. “I love you too.”
Someone near them cleared their throat.
“Very touching, lovebirds, but you have guests. So get untangled and be social for once.”
and now on to…
Chapter 20
Dr. April Sullivan was standing at the front door and waited.
I can’t believe I’m nervous. She thought. It’s not even officially a date. How could it be? Just a few drinks and friendly conversation !
Finally the door opened and before her stood a nice enough looking guy.
“Hi, you must be Dr. Sullivan. I’m Max.” He held out his hand and smiled.
“Yes, I’m Dr. Sullivan and looking for Shane.” She shook his hand and picked up her medic case.
“Come in please. She’s just talking to Bette and I guess they will be with us in a few moments.”
April entered the house and followed Max into the living room. Jenny came out of the kitchen with a tray just as Alice vanished into the direction of the bathroom.
“This is Jenny Schecter. Jen, this is Dr. Sullivan.” Max introduced them.
Jenny smiled at April. “Hello, nice to meet you. Would you like an ice tea. That’s all I could find in the kitchen.”
“Yes, thank you.”
The three of them took a place and started a conversation.
As the doorbell rang, Blue had interrupted his exploration of the house. Never one to be left out of the loop, he ran to the living room. There he found a new human sitting on the couch. He looked at Jenny and April and then at Max. He took a step near them, but sat down a few feet away.
