Chapter 1
Reaching over for her phone, Bette began to text.
Bette: Angie sounds like she had a great time last week. Please thank Carrie for the cufflinks. They are perfectly my style.
She read the message again, making sure that the words read innocently, then hit send. Fuck it, she thought and poured herself another drink. Risky. Very risky. Whether it was the whiskey or the text that was risky, she was undecided. Her phone vibrated in her hand, and her cheeks flushed seeing the name on her screen.
Tina: I love having her here. I think she missed you though.
Bette paused, wondering if this was the end of the exchange, and if she was reading too much into the cufflinks when the second vibration came.
Tina: I might have helped choosing those cufflinks.
Bette responded quickly, without thinking.
Bette: Well whoever chose them has impeccable taste. Thank you.
Bette stared at her phone, thinking about the last time she had worn those cufflinks a few months ago. She knew as soon as she walked through the doors of the Pendry hotel out into the cool night air that she had left her cufflinks. Bette could picture them on the pale wood nightstand, next to the lamp. The memory passed through her mind like a montage – soft skin underneath her palms, nails gently scraping her back. Mouths pressed together, tongues sliding in and out. Bette’s breasts pressed against hers, moving slowly together in climax. The feeling of legs wrapped around her, their bodies slick with sweat, cheeks and lips red with arousal –
Bette was snapped back into the present by the three little dots appearing on the screen. Tina was typing. They disappeared. Reappeared. Bette almost held her breath, knowing what was coming.
Tina: 8.18. #612
Bette smiled down at her phone, tiny prickling feelings of guilt outweighed by an overwhelming feeling of anticipation. She opened her personal calendar app to the 18th of August, and made an appointment titled 612. Bette tapped quickly to delete Tina’s last message. Strictly moderated, strictly above board.
Bette smiled into the last of her drink, knowing that she only had to wait six more days to see Tina again.
