Chapter 15 – Peggy meets with Tina

Tina:  Well, you’re not leaving me out of trip to a farm! Count me in.

Helena:  This ought to be a unique experience. Dylan?

Dylan:  Oh, come on Helena, it’s going to be great! They are going to have indoor plumbing and nice warm beds. It will be nice.

Marilyn:  Helena, you know your mother will not stay anywhere that will not have the ultimate in comfort. It will be a time just to relax and enjoy your children.

Helena:  Well, I’ll try anything once.

Bette:  Scotland in the summer?  It will be fabulous!

Peggy:  I do mean it – girls, you may use my residences whenever you like.  For example, if you are in New York, you should stay here.  No need to pay for hotels or cabs or food while doing business for the Foundation while here in New York.

Marilyn:  Peggy, I think everyone is now ready for another drink?  Is there anything else you wanted to say?

Peggy:  No, I think that’s it.  Thankyou ladies. I appreciate you taking this on more than you know. I know the Foundation is going to be in good hands. Thank you.

They all stood and went over to Peggy and hugged her and congratulated her on her up-coming retirement.  Everyone was very excited about their new future and new responsibilities. They then received fresh drinks and went to enjoy the hor-d’oevres.  Bette then pulled Peggy aside and began to talk to her.

Bette:  Peggy?  Have you got a moment?

Peggy:  Sure. What can I do for you?

Bette:  I was wondering if I could rent your Malibu home for a weekend in May.  Angie is going to her first prom, and Tina and I want to rent a beach house and have a weekend at the beach with eight teenagers who are going to the prom.  We want to have a supervised weekend so that they will have some fun without the mischief.  Angie will turn seventeen next month.  This will be her first formal event. Of course, if you rather not take the risk, then we will just find another place to rent.

Peggy:  So, you and Tina will be on the premises at all times?

Bette:  Yes, we will, and we may recruit a couple of more adults for backup. I think we will be able to get away with it since she is a junior. Next year may be a little more difficult to pull off all that supervision.

    1. Looks like their new work path has been decided and I’m pleased i was right that Peggy offered the job to Tina and that she took it.

Tina moving back officially to their home, it’s all coming together although they still need to have to do much work to be officially a couple again and both are committed to do that. I’m positive they will succeed.

Peggy, i love her, such a smart, strong and remarkable woman. She warned Tina to be really sure that she does want to be with Bette because Bette can’t handle it another time if she walks out on her again. Peggy knows Bette really well and in, my opinion she is the mother figure that Bette needs and sees in her. I love their relationship and i understand why Helena felt threatened all those years ago but i don’t approve what she did, trying to destroy Bette, in her personal and work life. I really hated Helena those seasons but began to tolerate her near the end of The L Word, okay maybe even liked her a bit.

Saw a notification you posted the next chapter, will read that today as well.

    2. Peggy and Helena do not play very much of a role in the rest of this story. I agree that Peggy is the mother figure in Bette’s life. That was the motivation behind all of Helena’s antics in The L Word. Tina’s conversation with Bette yesterday shows that Helena and Peggy have reconciled their differences. Everyone is aware of Helena’s past.

Bette and Tina are heading back to Los Angeles and to begin their process of working out their relationship and their life as being parents to Angie.

In the L Word, Helena drastically changed. There were two motivations for that. Peggy cuts off her money and she ends up in prison for her bad decisions. I think believe those two things gave her motivation to be more respectful of others and that how powerful using money can be as a weapon. But she does come to Kit’s aid with that money to get rid of Dawn Denbo. That is when I truly began to like Helena. And I truly like Dylan with Helena. I think Dylan made some bad decisions but showed her true feelings when she returned the check to Helena from the settlement. That said to me that Helena meant more to her than money. Not many people would tear up a check for $250,000 and send it back. That is when I knew that Dylan was more than just some conn artist and she truly had feelings for Helena.

Thanks for reading.. and for your comment.

    3. And there it is ……….
I would like to offer you the position as Executive Director of the Peabody Social Services Foundation.  I believe that you have the talent and the skills to direct the foundation and select the organizations which are worthy of financial support to make the lives of others a little better.

I could not think of a better team to take The Peabody Foundation into the Future.
Helena has grown and become very committed and will make an excellent Director of The Peabody Foundation.
Assisted by Dylan for guidance and advise and to also keep her grounded!
Peggy has groomed her and now feels Helena is ready to step into her shoes. I still can’t help thinking Peggy will be watching from the wings!

Bette as we know is a world class Art Dealer and Gallerist. What she doesn’t know about the Art World you could write on a stamp!

And Tina, Tina loved her role in Social Services all those years ago, helping communities and families and children who were underprivileged. She will make an excellent Executive Director as well.

This is a very formidable group of Womem, sure they will be a force to be reckoned with! Peggy Peabody is a very clever, shrewd and adventurous business woman!

I really enjoy the interaction and love this group of women share. I know Bette has alway look towards Peggy as a substitute mother and have a very special bond. It also seems Tina is becoming very attached to Marilyn, seeing signs in her that she finds and wanted in a mother figure.

It seems Bette and Tina are moving forward with their reconciliation plan, holiday in Europe, time moving back in to Bette’s house and possibly her bed! They just have to talk to Angie now and explain to her, they are taking it easy but want to be together, although I have a suspicion Angie already knows !

I can never get over how these people ‘live in another world!’
Flat in London, Beach House in Malibu, home in the Caribbean, possible new home in Scotland……. Peggy has worked hard for her lifestyle but all the same, I could never imagine such a lifestyle !

    4. Janice,

Helena and Dylan have a separate residence from Peggy and Marilyn in Malibu. I believe I wrote that Helena wanted to be the queen bee and not a worker bee. And that is exactly what she will be. As long as things are going as proscribed by the board, both Bette and Tina will run their own divisions independently and without much involvement from Helena. And I believe that Bette and Tina will be able to have normal work hours and have plenty of time to spend with Angie before she goes off to college.

I am not sure exactly how Peggy came into her money. Possibly in a divorce settlement with Helena’s father? Possibly her own inheritance from her parents? I get the feeling that Peggy is very well educated but her estate is composed of old money and not something she earned during her lifetime. People with money who are involved in philanthropy, usually have generational wealth and not earned wealth. There are exceptions – Bill Gates, and others who have made money from software applications, cell phones, social media, and other ventures. I would say that Peggy’s life is philanthropy and the promotion of arts. I do not get the vibes that she is a businesswoman per se, but she knows how to run and organization to accomplish what she wants to accomplish. She has associated with people similar to her all of her life. She is an interesting character.

Bette and Tina do plan to explain to Angie what is going on as soon as possible. But as Shane said back during the election, Angie may know more than you think, however talk to her and keep her informed as to what is going on. And it has been a dramatic week in New York.
