Chapter 16 – So Much for the Crazy Connection
Hit Front Entrance
Tina had reached the outside of the club and looked left, then right in search of the owner of the piece of jewelry she held in her hand. Damn, she thought, how did she disappear so fast?
She sighed and kicked her boot at a rock on the sidewalk in front of her. Her eyes followed a crack in the concrete over towards the horseshoe driveway entrance beyond the line to get into the club. That’s when she spotted a pair of familiar legs in sheer nylons standing on the curb.
Tina felt the smile overtake her frown and took a step forward. When her eyes reached the back of the familiar head of brown curls she was frozen in place. She witnessed in slow motion the bouncer lean in and kiss Bette. At that moment in time, Tina thought she felt her heart break a little.
“So much for the crazy connection, right Bette?” she sighed.
She heard the van full of Bette’s friends cheering her on as the bouncer walked away. Staring at the earring in her hand, she contemplated walking over to give it back to Bette. Is it psycho if I keep this little memento as a reminder of the perfect dance? She thought to herself. Another sigh. Probably.
As she looked up, she noticed one of Bette’s friends handing the lucky bouncer something from the inside of the van. She was too far to hear what was said. “Whatever.” She said in disgust.
Tina helplessly watched as Bette closed the front passenger-side door and the van began rolling away. It was then that Bette caught her staring. She was too disappointed to smile at the departing brunette.
“Tiiiinaaa!” she heard her name followed by a high pitched cackle.
Once Bette was no longer visible from behind the black limo, Tina’s attention turned to Papi and a very drunk and unsteady Helena making their way towards her. Helena was hanging onto Papi for balance and her hair was a bit unkempt. The rich Brit couldn’t stop laughing.
“Hey, where did you guys disappear to?” the blonde asked trying to lighten her morose mood.
Helena staggered towards Tina and threw her other arm around her shoulders so that now Papi and Tina were holding her up on either side.

Bette, it’s your fault – stop kissing bouncer and maybe you’ll get your earring back)

Sometimes love and destiny seem to be a big tease.
I love these moments of just missed, merely seconds too late and misinterpreted situations.
