Chapter 21 – Thanksgiving Holidays Begin

Angie: You know, when you explain things that way, I understand. I can see you being attracted to the personality and the character of a person. The fact that it comes in a male body or a female body? Well, it is what it is.
Suzanne: But aren’t there huge personality differences between males and females?
Bette: Yes. Most of which are taught by our society. Men are expected to be the aggressors, the protectors, the bread winners, the more competitive, the warriors, the heads of the houses… and so forth. And they are taught by their parents what is expected of them from the time they can walk. Girls are taught to be the caregivers, the nurturers and to be subservient to the male of the household. Well, society has now decided that it takes both spouses to work and provide for the household. And women want to be in a position where the spouses are equal. And since they are both working, then she wants help with the child raising, with the household chores, and the food preparation. The roles in marriages are changing. And it’s causing some problems as a result. A man’s role in the household is not what it was expected to be when he was growing up. And women are not finding their roles what they thought they would be either. And the conflict arises and relationships split up. Society is changing and it’s causing a lot of social upheaval. There are those who want to revert back to the family life they knew growing up and there are those who say “No way Jose” that I am going to have a professional life and therefore we both will participate in our domestic life.
Suzanne: Would you say that is one of the reasons for your successful marriage? You two are equal partners?
Tina: Yes, I think it is a part of it yes. But it took us a while to define what that meant and to achieve that.
Bette: Rule No. 1 – Everything is both of our responsibility. We both are responsible for making the bed, taking in the dry cleaning, the cooking, the child care and paying the bills. Neither of us is more responsible than the other. Now we may divide up the chores so that it all gets done. And one of us may like doing some chores and tend to do them more than the other, but that does not mean that chore is removed from both spouses’ responsibility. That is how a good partnership works. Tina likes to cook and is a fantastic cook. However, if she doesn’t have time or is not feeling up to it at some point, it’s my job to step up and fill in. And it is not appropriate for me to grumble when that happens. We are in this together and we all need to eat and when it’s my turn? It’s my turn. And for her benefit and the benefit of the rest of my family, I need to do a decent job of it.

Maybe Bette & Tina could think of a way to assist Suzanne in her education. Maybe loans to cover whatever isn’t covered by the scholarships Suzanne can get. Loans due (or forgiven) after getting her degree(s) and finally earning a full-time professional salary.
It might be helpful to run any ideas past Angie before talking with Suzanne. To make sure it won’t damage their relationship with Angie. Or, damage Angie’s friendship with Suzanne.
Just a thought!
I’m really loving this ongoing story line about life. Or, at least the life of my favorite couple who happen to have a lot, a lot of $$$$$. Thanks

Stay tuned. You are somewhat clairvoyant. Bette and Tina will have a conversation about this very thing. How can we (Bette and Tina) help Suzanne out without interfering with her life. You see, money is a powerful influencer of people and the last thing they want to do is influence Suzanne’s life. Their objective is to help her without her feeling some kind of debt of gratitude for this help. Its a fine line to walk. They have learned a lot of lessons from Helena… do people like me for who I am or for what I can do for them or have done for them or could do for them? You see, friends who are bound by favors are not friends at all… or if they are, they are only temporary friends.

I have been so fascinated with this fic that I have not commented on it. I just love this family, and how they interact. I must say I was a little shocked when Margaret and Mary came out as a couple. I knew something was going on with them, but never guessed that it was that. I really am enjoying it all please continue.
It is not my plan to ever go into the details of the relationship with Margaret and Mary… I can say that there are all kinds of relationships. The fact is, that they want to be with each other as much as they can and want to share living space and a bed. They are affectionate with each other but that may as far as it goes. They are not going to disclose the intimate details of their relationships if there are any to disclose. The fact is that they are enjoying being companions. I just wanted to demonstrate that Bette worry about the two getting along was just totally uncalled for. And I wanted another opportunity for Bette and Tina to talk to Angie about relationships. And I also wanted to talk a little about labels…
