    Chapter 3

“I found the perfect donor Kit. We’ve had his sperm tested and it’s been sitting frozen at the Cryobank for weeks. Everything checked out but Tina doesn’t want to use him.”

“How come you’ve never mentioned this before?”

“Kit you know I like to keep our personal lives private. I wouldn’t even be telling you this now if I thought we could work it out ourselves but I can’t deal with it on my own anymore. Tina’s rejection of this donor just really threw me for loop.”

“Why is she rejecting him, if you said he was perfect?”

“Because the donor is Marcus Allenwood who happens to be African American.”

“Are you telling me that she rejected a viable donor because he’s Black?”

“She says having a bi-racial child with two moms is too much ‘otherness’ to put on a child.”
Although Kit was Black and her sister was bi-racial the subject of race was never an issue between them. She didn’t think it was an issue between Bette and Tina either. She was taken aback by Bette’s comment.

“Did you two not discuss the subject of race before you decided to have children together? Did she not take into account that you would be the child’s other legal parent once it was conceived? What kind of shit is this ‘otherness’ that she’s talking about?”

“When we first talked about having children together we discussed looking for an African American or bi-racial donor if she were the birth mother so that the children would reflect both our heritages. To be honest I don’t think we’d given race a whole lot of weight when we were searching. We just wanted a healthy, handsome, creative man that was willing to donate his sperm and give up any claim on the baby.”

“So what changed; what do you think brought on all this doubt? I mean she was really excited about quitting her job and preparing her body for pregnancy. She was diligent about monitoring her cycles and testing for her ovulation times. For the first six months she really seemed committed to doing everything she had to do to conceive.”

“I’m not sure exactly what brought it on but I do know that her feelings towards me changed after we visited Jean Paul Chamois or at least that is when it became apparent.”

    1. I love your story very much, though sad, it has lighted the debate in my mind about the insecurities and communication in the relationship of our couple; communication is a big part of their failure, Tina has closed herself in her own shell, maybe she is feeling guilty because her pregnancy efforts are not giving results, maybe she feels her partner is not giving her emotional support, maybe she feels Bette is not longer interested in her but just in the baby
And Bette is, just observing, apparently she doesn’t think she has anything to do with the catastrophic situation for which they are going through; she, apparently, already gave up on Tina, thinking the worst of her wife.
Each of them see, for her for own side of the story, they have lost perspective on their relationship and they don’t want to be in the other one shoes, we could say there is none so blind as the one who doesn’t want to see.
I’m thrilled, I want to read what will happen, how they are going to find their way back to each other, Thank you for this update and pps.

    2. Hey Bat, I know I read this story before but I can’t really remember the storyline, there are some bits and pieces I remember but I am not sure if I am mixing it with another story. But it’s all the better so I can enjoy you reposting this story. It’s really hard to stay neutral and to give Tina credit if Bette’s telling Kit about their problems and Tina’s behavior is correct. Don’t worry about any accusation on my part about your portrait of any of Tina or Bette. Looking forward to your next post.
