Chapter 8
Henry knew that it wasn’t that long ago that Tina had been preparing her body for pregnancy so he was concerned that maybe she wasn’t on birth control yet.
“That would be a cruel twist of fate wouldn’t it Henry. Don’t worry I’m already on birth control. We’re safe.”
Henry knew Tina had only been with Bette and since his divorce he’d only been with two other women but he still made a mental note to put a few condoms in his wallet. He also made a mental note not to fall in love with Tina Kennard unless he wanted his heart broken. After another few minutes of silence he could tell that Tina had drifted off into her own mind again. He figured he might as well leave since she hadn’t asked him to stay plus he had to pick up his son anyway.
“Mind if I take a shower?”
“No go ahead. I want to stay here for a bit longer.”
“OK. If you are sure you’re alright.”
“I’m fine Henry. Stop worrying.”
***
Tina watched her lover’ hairy ass walking towards the master bath. Henry had a decent physique for a man in his late forties but he wasn’t exactly a hard body. She found him physically attractive but what she found least attractive about his physical appearance was his skin. She’d never noticed how hairy and freckly his shoulder, neck and back were until they’d spent time on the beach the day before. Because of this she wasn’t inclined to bury her face in his neck and nuzzle up to him like she had with Bette.
Another noticeable difference other than the obvious was that whenever Bette left her alone in bed after sex to shower as Henry just did Tina would immediately miss her presence so she would instinctively wrap herself in the sheets and lay on her stomach hugging Bette’s pillow. She loved to spend a few minutes taking deep breaths into the pillow to find a trace of her lover’s unique scent mixed with her shampoo and perfume. She reveled in the lingering fragrance that their lovemaking left on the sheets.
Bette would sometimes come out of the shower to find Tina with the tangled sheets barely covering her butt. The creamy smooth skin of Tina’s exposed back was always a turn on for Bette and more often than not seeing Tina in that position would inspire another bout of lovemaking. Without knowing exactly why Tina got up from the bed and changed the sheets while Henry was still in the shower.
***
After Henry left Tina cleared the discarded dishes from the patio table, cleaned up the kitchen, showered and dressed for bed. She lay on the freshly made bed and contemplated her first male lover in over seven years. Had she made a mistake with Henry? Was she risking another friendship? Her relationship with Josh had suffered because of their liaison but with Henry it would be worse if she were to lose him as a friend. Why didn’t she ask him to spend the night, and why did she feel the need to rid the bed of any trace of their lovemaking?
Even though she didn’t have a mind blowing orgasm she hadn’t faked the one she had. Her body did respond to him. She had enjoyed the sex, but why didn’t she allow him to make love to her? Why didn’t she want to indulge in any oral sex? Would that feel too much like a betrayal to what she shared with Bette; as if having sex with a man wasn’t betrayal enough? She really didn’t know what it was exactly that she wanted. She was driving herself crazy thinking about her fluid sexuality.
Before she fell asleep she went to the dresser and picked up a bottle of the perfume that Bette had worn for years. She loved the way it smelled and it was always a turn on for her to sniff behind Bette’s ear or bury her face in her neck as she took in the fragrance that was uniquely Bette Porter. She sprayed a little on her pillowcase then returned the bottle to the dresser. Although the perfume didn’t smell exactly the same being sprayed directly on the pillow versus rubbing off of Bette’s body it had somehow helped Tina to make the sensory connection as she hugged the perfumed pillow and cried herself to sleep.

Wow, thank you, two chapters in less than 24 hours; well Bat, Tina doesn’t get her answers, but at least she is comparing. I think that perhaps her problem is not about sex with men or women, but with Bette, and not exactly sex; she said doesn’t want to hurt her ex-partner but she really does it; Tina is caged in Bette’s circle; she needs her ‘own’ friends, out of it; no even other lesbians, (probably the lesbian world at WE-HO is small and interconnected). I believe Tina possibly feel her guilt, and suffocation, and probably alone, (I’m just thinking). I like a lot this chapter and at the same time it is very painful (believe me, I’m not masochist); but I am discovering and understanding more about the dysfunctional issue between them. Thanks and pps
proteonomics. I will be posting extra chapters this weekend, because I have the time and the chapters are ready, but also because I will be traveling for business four days next week and won’t have access to my computer to make any regular posts. You can read them all at once or save them to read next week.
Yes, Tina’s issue has little to do with sex as she is coming to realize, but I wanted to give her a compassionate man to do her exploration with rather than someone like Josh. That’s why I made Henry a friend and confidant in this story prior to them becoming sexually involved. She really is taking the wrong approach but I don’t think she knows what to do, and Bette basically kicking her out of the house and telling her to figure things out on her own didn’t help matters. .
Hey Bat, to have you post another chapter so soon is really great, even if I don’t like the context of this chapter, which I should assure you has nothing to do with your writing talent. Tina really seems more than confused to me and should consider talking to some professional. Whatever Tina is looking for I don’t think that she will be able to find those answers by trying to force a relationship with Henry – she doesn’t to me seems ready to date him – and he is setting himself up to some major heartache. Please don’t take my next comment the wrong way – but when Tina wanted him to have sex with her he declined and stated that he wanted to date her, but right at the next day they ended up having sex together?! As for their ‘family’ it’s going to be hard for them to not take sides, it sure is going to get awkward should Tina decide to join their family activities with her ‘boyfriend’ so soon after ending her marriage with Bette – so she either has to attend without Henry or she is going to stay away, either way this means she is going to distance herself from her longtime friends and that’s definitely not healthy. How come Tina didn’t have any friends of her own when meeting Bette? She had been in L.A. for some time working in the movie business, there must have been people she considered friends. Sorry but it’s something I always wondered about while watching the show. But enough – waiting patiently for your next post.
as1219 – I will be posting several chapters this weekend, to make up for not being able to post next week due to my travel schedule so you can read them all or save some for next week.
I agree it was unusual that Tina didn’t have friends of her own, which is part of the reason why I made Henry a friend before they became lovers. Secondly yes it did seem odd that he declined the sex the night before then slept with her the next evening but they did ‘technically go on a date’. However, that wasn’t the point. There were a couple of reasons why he held off. First he did not want to have sex with her while she was drunk. Secondly knowing her agenda he didn’t want to be used for sex just to satisfy her need to explore her ‘feelings for men.’. When he said he wanted to date her, it didn’t mean that he wasn’t going to have sex with her; it meant he wanted it to mean something and by asking her to date he could at least feel like she had feelings for him. I will address this night in a later chapter because I felt they did need to talk about it after they both had a chance to process it.
