Yes!!! Dana clenched her fists at her accomplishment. Two down, one to go. Poised with the basketball in her hand, she squinted, focused on the hoop – and shot – swoosh.

Dana turned and scanned the crowd for her friends. Shane was hitting on the lady running the lemonade stand. From the looks of it, Shane would not be gong home alone. Tina and Helena were walking hand in hand, their bodies close – paying no attention to the flashing lights of the booths and games around them. Carmen and Jenny were doing some funky danceathon game- her two left feet would never cooperate enough for that.

The it happened, her gaze settled on Alice – her heart beat madly in her chest. A few months ago – she would have walked over to Alice, made some snarky remark or another and they would have laughed at the googoo eyes of Tina and Helena, marveled at the draw that was Shane and most certainly made fun of Carmen and Jenny.

But now well who knew what their relationship was to be. She had broken the engagement to Tonya shortly after the 4 am surprise that played over and over in her mind, but she and Alice still pretended the kiss had not happened.

She placed the chicken behind her back intending to be cool – to slide over to Alice to thrust the chicken out and say something smooth.

At that exact moment, she caught her toe on the oh please let there be something she caught it on.. nope, she stumbled over her foot and in an attempt to catch her footing, let go of the chicken.

In slow motion, its red comb blowing in the wind, Dana watched mortified as the chicken flew end over end right at Alice. Alice snagged the chicken and giggled as she clutched it to her chest, its little orange beak thrusting outward.

So much for cool, Fairbanks Dana muttered. Alice laughed almost uncontrollably for a few moments as Dana closed the 6 or so feet between them. The laughter was contagious and through the blush on her cheek, Dana smiled awkwardly and giggled too.

She brushed the hair away from her face and grinned up at Alice. Tastes like Chicken? The two broke into small fits of laughter – just like old times.

Without thought, Dana stroked the chickens beak and looked up at Alice. Their gaze caught and held. The smile on Danas face slowly disappeared. Her eyes focusing on Alices mouth – oh those kissable lips. Her expression intense, she gulped. Her line of sight moved back to Alices eyes. Alice too had become serious.

She couldnt wait another second. With great force, Dana pressed her body into Alice. She crushed their lips together, devouring them. Her body melted. Their bodies radiated a heat.

Ahem – the loud throat clearing broke them apart. Alice and Dana ducked their heads, embarrassment stained their cheeks.

Shane stared at the pair intently. I knew it. All this tension – you two She grinned and nodded the self-assured head bob that was uniquely Shane. So you guys gonna get a room or just make out in the fun house all day.
