    The end of opening night… Bette’s last week at The CAC… and alpha Tina revisited…

    Coming up for air – part thirty five

    Bette scanned the room. Tina looked tired. She hid it well, but Bette could tell by the way she shifted from one foot to the other that her girlfriend was done for the evening. Only a few people were left, standing in little groups scattered around the room. Franklin left hours ago. He looked as if he didn’t know whether to gloat or explode in anger. The opening had been a huge success. All the right people had attended, the press had turned out in large numbers, and the rumor was that Bette would wake up to rave reviews. Franklin had very little to complain about, still he wandered the halls looking like he lost his best friend or more likely his only guarantee of continued success.

    Bette should have been feeling victorious. She should have been triumphant, but instead she felt empty and completely drained of energy. Bette had always loved opening nights. The excitement, the nerves, the attention; all of it made Bette do her very best. She performed success to perfection. She loved that all eyes were on her and loved it even more with Tina by her side. This, the last opening night at the CAC, had all the elements to make it the night that topped all other opening nights. To others it probably did, but to Bette it was a night of saying goodbye to people she respected, to a position she’d made her own, to a place she’d learned to love, and to successes she made happen. On the outside Bette did what was required of her. She smiled and made conversation She represented The CAC flawlessly. But all Bette had wanted to do all night was go hide in her office.

    The night was finally coming to and end. Bette took a deep breath. She walked up beside Tina.
    “Are you ready to get out of here?” she asked and took Tina’s hand.
    “I’m okay, Bette… we can stay a little longer…” Tina smiled.
    “You’re tired Tina… I can tell, you know. And so am I, to be honest… I just need to get a few things from the office and then we can go. Does that work for you?” Bette said, squeezing Tina’s hand gently.
    “Sure… I’ll be here…”

    7. Yeah. Alpha Tina is *totally* drool-worthy, doesn’t matter if she’s wearing 5-inch heels or a bathrobe and a mouth ringed with toothpaste foam. She got Bette to hold on to that shred of patience, and the result? H. O. T. I can’t wait for the trip Tina has planned… she doesn’t have to wear a thing and I’ll be drooling. Wait, I phrased that wrong. Uh…. no, I didn’t. I’m glad Bette’s got the CAC out of her system, and it’s interesting that Tina gave her the time to get over it, and just left Bette to sort it out on her own time, while still being there for her. Last time they left each other alone too much, Bette was the next-to-last to find out T was pregnant. They’re in a way better place now though, and their understanding of each other has vastly improved. Hmmm… is there hope that Tina might want to move back to the house after all? Home is where the heart is; Bette’s still living at the house… Excellent chapter, anker, I loved it. Thanks for posting it so soon after the last one.

My heart was heavy when Bette finally broke down in her office. Leaving the CAC is the best thing for her, but leaving your comfort zone is always a little unnerving.     19. What a way to get the day started and all this before breakfast. Now that is how I would love to begin my day. Bette and Tina’s own special pre-breakfast interlude is one way of guaranteed adult alone time. Bette letting go of all her her emotions go is very healthy. Too bad she can not seem do that as they come upon her and not hold onto to them until they explode from her.
