Coming up for air – part thirty nine
“So what do you want to do for your birthday?” Bette asked as she placed a plate of delicious food in front of Tina.
“Mmm, this looks amazing, baby…” Tina smiled up at Bette.
“Good… Now your birthday, T… can I plan something?” Bette asked and sat down.
“I think I’m in the mood for something casual… maybe we could invite the gang over for dinner… and include Jeremy and Charlie…”
“Do you really wanna cook on your birthday?” Bette said with a frown.
“Sure… I have all week to prepare… oh, and by the way, I have a surprise planned for you on Friday…” Tina smiled and threw Bette a naughty look.
“Shouldn’t I be the one surprising you on your birthday…?”
“Not necessarily… this surprise is for my benefit too…” Tina smiled.
“Care to share?”
“Nope…”
“Hmmm…” Bette mulled, looking at Tina with skepticism.
“What, babe? You usually like my surprises…”
“I do… but when do I get to spoil you?” Bette said, resting her elbows on the table.
“You want a timeslot?” Tina chuckled.
“Yes,” Bette nodded.
“Well, how about if I don’t plan anything for the entire weekend… you do the planning… I’ll just make myself available…” Tina said, mimicking Bette’s position.
“I can live with that… Now eat!”
“And just for the record, you spoil me all the time… you just cooked for me tonight… and last night, well… baby, you took care of me alright…”
Bette reclined in her chair with a smug smile on her face, “mmm, that was good, wasn’t it?”
“Very!” Tina said, “and we’ll get to indulge each other tomorrow when we go shopping for new rings…”
“That’s true…”
“Mmm, this food is so good, baby…” Tina moaned.
Tina was sitting at her desk Monday morning. She kept going back to the fact that later that day she would be buying engagement rings with Bette. They had come so far over the past six months. Every once in a while Tina still had trouble allowing herself to embrace all the happiness that came with being around Bette full time. But she was getting better at it. Whenever they she felt guilty or unsure if it was okay for her to feel so damn good, she reminded herself that she was the one in control. She was making choices that felt good, and that had not been the case for a long time.
“Tina… your phone…” Alisha shouted from across the room.
“What?”
“Your cell…. don’t you wanna get it?”
“Oh right… thanks…” Tina said, checking the display before she answered.

Thanks Anker…I have this shyt awful housework to do!!!! I have let it accumulate…like clothes over four rooms etc. TIME TO CLEAN UP!!!…but I saw your story and I’m such a sucker for your B & T that I just had to read…awesome as always, so much detail, and the birthday cliffie (lol)…in an anticipation of your next post I will now go off to do albeit reluctantly the housework, hoping that when I’m finished you MAY have posted the 2nd half of the birthday girl’s present….gotta love James…as for alphabette…ouch!!! she’s a teaser!!!

I love your Bette and Tina. They have worked out a lot of their problems and seem to continue to talk through them. Tina is sneaky and fun. First she has Bette meet her at work to shut up her co-workers and now this surprise to Bette’s office. Looking forward to more B&T soon.

Hey anker, this was a very nice Saturday surprise post. I love how you write B&T together and I am sure in the next chapter things are going to heat up at the office. LOL!! Hey, Anker! As always, your post brightened up the day! Love it when Alphabette comes out to play…love it even more when Tina tweaks her carefully thought out plans. What do you think? Can Bette totally embrace the journey off the well thought out path or does she stress (even a little) that Tina has changed -even in a good way- the ideas she mapped out as Tina’s perfect birthday? Anker… do you *really* want to hear me sing? I don’t think you know what you’re letting yourself in for… Do you have enough medical insurance to repair the damage to your ears? Are you ready to go through extensive therapy to recover from the mental anguish of my off-key warbling? Heed my warnings: it won’t be pretty. I don’t know if the cuteness from the puppies and kittens would be enough to counteract the damage of me mangling show tunes… And the nightmares, you ready for those too? Okay, I’m maybe not that bad. Wait, that’s a blatant lie: I am. Besides, I live at sea level… even going up a slight hill makes my ears pop, so if I get up towards the mountains to imitate the von Trapps, my head would likely explode. So, you’re likely safe from me and my singing… or are you? Dare to mention that word again, and you may find out… ;) Right, on to the chapter: T showing off Bette at the Center was too cute, yet, still hot. Heck, if I were Tina, I’d take out full-page ads in newspapers and hire billboards to show Bette off, complete with a hotline number for the jealous onlookers: 1-800-U-ENVY-ME. I can’t wait to see what T has in store for Bette… she has a whole 70 minutes (I’m allowing 5 minutes to correct things in case either– or hopefully both of them– are en déshabillé… yes, that’s a hint, anker) to pay Bette back for leaving her in that state, on her birthday, no less! anker, awesome as usual. Tina wanting to show Bette off (while totally understandable!) WAS SO CUTE. Bette wouldn’t have made it out the door that morning… grrrrr… even WITH surprises later. :) James is about the best assitant ever… I need to get one of those… LOL
