Constellations: Chapter 18- Missing Dinner
Chapter 18- Missing Dinner
Alex pulled away, looking hurt.
Alex: What’s wrong?
Alice: I was just about to call you. Alex, I can’t do this anymore.
Alex looked at her, eyes welling up with tears.
Alice: Alex, please don’t cry.
Alex shook her head, a stream of tears flowing down her face.
Alex: I show up here, at my girlfriend’s house, looking for someone to turn to after I figure out my parents will get with this baby everything we never had, my girlfriend dumps me and now expects me not to cry.
Alice: Shane said that?
Alex: So did Madre.
Alice took a step forward and rubbed Alex’s cheek gently with her hand.
Alice: I’m sorry, I really don’t wanna do this but I have to Alex. You and me just can’t work any more.
Alex: Why the hell not?
Alice whipped a stray tear away and wrapping her arms around herself.
Alice: There’s just too much of an age difference and I can’t give you things you need just like you can’t give me things that I need.
Alex: What the fuck Alice? You didn’t seem like you needed anything I couldn’t give while I was fucking you now did you?
Alice: It’s not like that Alex. I love you, I do.
Alex: But I’m just not enough!
Alex yelled in anger and shoved over the coat rack as she turned and left the apartment. Alice just stood there, mesmerized by the anger Alex had that she had never before seen!
She broke down in tears, falling to the floor.
Alex stormed out of the apartment and onto the sidewalk where the tears were free-falling by now. She started to run. She had no clue where she was going, she had no where to go. What she did have was a family who no longer wanted or needed her, and an ex. Just what she needed… another ex. This was all just fucking great, just when her life started to seem so perfect.
Alex: Great job McCutcheon.
Her feet dragged her block on block, she always traveled with her head down. The tears had stopped now. Her body must have shed all the liquid it possessed, because she was dying of thirst right now. She checked her watch: 9:30. She looked up and saw that the sun had set, it was pitch black and she never realized it until now, but her feet were throbbing. Her stomach made sure she was aware of it’s missing dinner. There’s gonna be a lot of that now.
