Cries Of The Mass – Chapter 4

To say Tina was surprised was understating the situation considerably. She remained staring at the door long after Jodi had left; just furling and unfurling her eyebrows in thought. She went through a succession of emotions. Confusion; she loved Bette, she said it herself. Happiness; Jodi was gone, after months of Tina wishing her away. Guilt; a result of the glee she’d just experienced.

She thought about the time Bette spent trying to win the artist back and was momentarily angry with Jodi for giving up so easily. She was irritated that she’d walked away while Bette lay unconscious; completely oblivious. But the last words spoken hung in the air around her, displacing her antagonism.

“I did love her, Tina. But she never stopped loving you. Treat her well. Please.”

The beeping of hospital machinery brought her back. She sighed as she turned to face the stagnant beauty. Her hand hadn’t left Bette’s the entire time, but she refreshed her grip and resumed running her thumb along the slender fingers.

“I hope you heard her, Bette. I don’t know if I could repeat what she said. I guess I could say it now, she said she loved you. She was telling the truth, I can tell; something in her eyes.” Tina paused, looking down on her ex-lover, “I know that look; I’ve woken up to see it reflected in my own eyes every day for the last ten years” She continued in a voice lower than a hum, “It never dimmed; that twinkle. It never faded or diminished. That’s why I stopped looking. I’d avoid my own reflection, to avoid the truth”

Tina began to cry, her eyes raining her sentiments onto the mocha hand she clutched so desperately.

“Bette, please come back to me. Come back to us, Angelica and I. We need you.” Between words, her chest heaved full-size burdening sobs and she struggled to contain herself. “I need you. Baby, I’ve lived without you, and it was the loneliest I’ve ever been. I know it’s selfish to want you to forgive me, I know I hurt you and I’ll never regret a thing more in my life. I was never me without you; I was never the Tina Kennard I know I am. The woman you know I am. It’s going to sound corny, or pathetically needy, but I don’t care. You’re like another piece of me.”

    1. Before I head off to dinner, I had to get this one read. AD, no thanking me, remember what I said in the PM. * wink * Okay, this was just too damn cute. I can understand Tina’s pain, knowing that she did in fact cause Bette some hurt. However, taking all of it on right now isn’t going to accomplish anything. The best thing is to acknowledge it to herself first, then slowly take the appropriate steps in coming back to the love of her life. You have crafted a beautiful tale with the words that Tina has used to express her deep love for this woman. Lastly, but so funny, was Tina recalling the smell of burnt toast!!! LMAOOOOO Why must most of us have Bette incapable of cooking??? The funny thing is, we never really saw her do such a bad job, except one time. I LOVE it, but then again you knew that. Keep up the brilliant writing hun. ((( hugs )))

    2. Congrats with your results! This one is so sad, but yet offers some hope for their relationship. Looking forward to updates of your other stories as well.

    3. Congratulations, so happy that you passed all your classes with flying colors, never had a doubt that you would. Certainly hope Bette heard everything that Tina was saying. People that are unconscious usually do hear everything and will at some point wake up when the trauma has passed. Hope it is soon for Bette and Tina. PPS.

    4. I hope that Bette is hearing all that Tina is saying. I am sure that Tina would repeat them to an awake Bette, but this is the fighting words that Bette will need to pull herself out of the darkness. I love my toast really really dark. I even set off the smoke alarms.

    5. Tear-freaking-jerker…that was amazing. I’m glad Tina acknowledges that she had some part in their demise…btw, the Village piece is coming soon…I’m juggling schoolwork, a girlfriend, and a new fish lol…but you shoud post soon, yeah?

    6. Very loving chapter!!! I do hope Bette wil wakes up very soon . having Kit sit with Tina will I hope make Bette wake up soon. When she does wake up she will rememder who Tina is.
