“They have been there about a month, but they were really light until the last couple of days”

“Has she been eating normally?”

“Yeah why?”

“Well she had lost a few pounds and she was already on the light side of average.”

“Dana what’s going on? You’re scaring me!”

“Tina relax we don’t know anything yet. I want to do some blood work.”

“Dane tell me what’s going on with my baby.” Tina snapped on the verge of hysterics.

“Tina why don’t you come with me” Dana suggested. “Girls why don’t you play with the puzzles we will be right outside.”

“Ok” Skyler quickly agreed. Dana closed the door behind Tina.

“Tina how long have you known me?”

“Forever” she answered the tears welling up.

“Do you trust me?”

“You know I do.”

“Then trust me with this. I think that she may be anemic, but I don’t know yet. Tina you know I am not going to take any chances with any child, especially not one of yours.”

Tina burst into tears. Dana wrapped her arms around her. “Shhh… it’s going to be ok I will figure it out and take care of her.” Dana held Tina until her tears subsided. She looked into Tina’s eyes. “Now, I am going to order some blood work, and I want you to bring her back in a week when we get the tests back.”

“Ok” Tina replied.

“Until then I want you to make sure she is eating, and up her red meat. I mean it Tina I will figure this out.”

“Thanks Dane”

“Go in with the girls I will bring the paperwork into you.”

“Thanks” Tina returned to the exam room and worked puzzles with the girls until Dana returned with the paperwork.

“The lab is right down the hall when you’re done stop at the desk and make an appointment for next week. I’ll call you in a few days Tina.”

“Thanks Dane… you ready girls?”

“Yeah Mommy…. Mommy?”

“Yeah baby?”

“Does Sissy have to get a shot?”

“Yeah baby she does… but it will be over quick and the we will go get some ice cream.” Tina picked Hailey up and Skyler walked along side as they walked to the lab.

“That’s it buddy all done”

“Cool” Colin replied excited that there were no shots this time.

“Bette here is the school form that you will need.”

“Thank you Doctor” Bette and Colin headed down the hall when she heard the voice again.

“Next Monday at 2:30 will be fine… Thank you.. we will see you then.”

“Ok Ms. Kennard we will see you then” the receptionist said.

Bette racked her brain trying to place the voice. She knew she had never met the beautiful Ms. Kennard, but she knew that voice. The drive home was quite once again thanks to Colin’s Gameboy.

“Hey Mom… can we go to The Planet?”

Bette was lost in her thoughts and didn’t hear Colin.

“It’s her” Bette yelled out.

“Who Mommy?”

“What Buddy?”

“Who’s her Mommy?”

“Oh no one little man… what do you say we go to The Planet? You want a smoothie?”

“Umm… yeah Mommy.”

Bette pulls into the parking lot of The Planet still unaware of her son’s earlier request. The walked in and Colin took off.

“Hey Buddy” Kit said leaning down for a hug and a kiss. “How are you?”
