    Dawn (Time of Day 2)

With the sound of approaching footsteps, Tina pulled herself out of her daydream, and against concentrated on the computer set on the table before her.

She half-paid attention, trying to become interested in the quarterly projections, as Henry went through his morning routine, helping himself to a cup of coffee.

Before speaking, he cleared his throat loudly enough to ensure she reacted. “So, you don’t think we should talk?”

    Dammit. “Talk?”

Placing the mug on the table, he took a seat across from Tina. “Yeah, talk.”

Steady. “About?” She hoped he couldn’t hear the slight nasal whine that was coming into her voice as she could feel her throat tightening. Breathe normally. In, out.

    “Well, last week, last night.”

Tina fought her instincts to pack up and bolt. “Look, I know I’ve been a little preoccupied.” Maybe he would accept the work excuse. “But it’s just going to be for a few more weeks.”

“Are we even talking about the same thing?”

    “I don’t know. Are we?”

“I’m saying…” Turning the mug on the table, he closed his eyes. “It’s just sometimes, I feel like you go somewhere.”

    “I’m here now, aren’t I?”

“Are you?” He shot the words towards her.

She crossed her arms and sat back in the chair.

“Tina.” He played with the mug, rolling it around on the table. “You come here, you sleep over, and that’s it.”

He had noticed. “So you’re saying, what?” She could feel the tension rising again. “That I’m not putting out?”

“You don’t need to make it sound so crass.”

“But that is what you’re saying, right?”

“Maybe.” He exhaled a large breath. “I don’t know. Look, I just know that sometimes, it seems like you don’t want there to be an us.”

“Sometimes? Maybe I’m just not perpetually horny.”

“Get off it.” He continued the annoying rolling of the mug on the table. “It’s more than that.”

Tina could feel a pounding starting at the base of her neck. After the way her morning starting, this would not have been the direction that she chose to take things. Her wish was for a nice, quiet morning, a survivable day of work, and then tonight, picking up Angelica from the house.

    1. Guilt shouldn’t stop her from doing the right thing. Tina needs to ignore the kicked-puppy look, and get herself out of that situation. Excellent chapter, pseud, you really captured Tina’s annoyance/guilt/confusion well. Thanks

    2. Christ, Tina, stop being such a raging bitch and end it with Henry. God, I feel sorry for the guy. I’d feel more sorry if he and Tina hadn’t started their sex life in Bette’s house, but still.

    3. Okay, Dusk, Dawn but you still have evening, midnight, early early morning, mid morning, late morning, noon, early afternoon, mid afternoon, late afternoon and my favorite Afternoon Delight. Just have Tina dance away from Henry and right into Bette’s life. Start as friends and as mothers and go from there.

    4. Pseud, Another wonderful chapter and companion piece to “Dusk” but you can’t stop there. This tale deserves to be told. Tina needs to face her thoughts and longings and then sort her life out. Who does she really want to spend her life with? Who completes her heart, mind, body and soul? Who does she see when she thinks about being part of a family? Who is the other parent to Angelica? Once Tina can decide who this is then she can move forward. I know that she romance with Henry is over now. They are just playing out the pretence of being together. What I would like to know now is Bette’s point of view. Is she still entranced by Jodi or is the bloom off this rose as the polygamy issue causes concern. Bette is totally a one-woman woman. Please, please, puh-lease continue this awesome story. Your Loyal Fan.

    5. First off gotta tell you I was so happy to see your back. Second, you can’t stop. Tina so needs to end things with henry, and Tibetter that I am I can only hope and pray that the two will get back together.
