Destiny in a Mechanics Shop
Tina had just finished working at the coffee shop late on Saturday. She trudged up the apartment building staircase to door 411. She fumbled for her keys, finally finding the right one, put it in lock and turned the *****, to her palace. She threw her keys and bag on the couch, then proceeded across the room to the message machine. Seeing the little red button flashing, she pressed the play button. The usual messages came up, her mum, her sister, her work and then the last one captured her attention.
“Uh hi…This is Mickey, from Mickies auto-shop…Uh yeah your cars ready…. You can pick it up tomorrow if you like?”
Tina was ecstatic…Finally her own wheels. It felt like an eternity without them. Yeah sure she borrowed a rent-a-car, but it just wasnt the same. She never really noticed how dependent she was on her car. Yet she was 20 and this was L.A. Plus public transport was so dangerous these days, with all the gang murders and bag snatching, it made Tina shiver just thinking about it. She thought it was wise to rent a car instead. Yet they were nothing compared to her Porsche. They all were small and boxy. Crappy air-conditioning, and no supped up sound system, and most of all NOT FAST!
“Why me?” She kept questioning the bright blue skies above her. As if staring God straight in the face trying to make him nervous.
She was so thankful to hear that her car was ready. She looked at the old grandfather clock in the living room to see that it was five past ten… “Dammit” She cursed herself. “I could of picked it up today.”
Tina hardly could sleep that night; her body was longing to drive her baby. She could smell the leather and feel the bass pulsing through her body. Her eye peaked open to look at the alarm clock on her side table. It blinded Tina at first being so bright and red, yet when her eyes re-adjusted she could see that it was finally six thirty. (Yeah I know getting up that early on a Sunday morning in blasphemy.) She started her day with a healthy breakfast of fruit salad with a side of OJ and a piece of toast. After her hearty meal she jumped into the shower. Thinking about her hair careless and free in the wind of her soft top Porsche. “I’m coming baby.” She whispered as if her car could hear her.
The shower was beautiful, it made all Tinas problems seem so distant and unworthy of her time. A shower always made the day seem a little more bearable.
As soon as she rinsed her golden locks free from the conditioner, she was out of the shower and in the bedroom getting ready for the days tasks. Since it was a Sunday, she wore something casual. Just some old hip hugging ripped jeans and a bright red v-neck t-shirt. She lightly applied some lip-gloss and mascara, dried her hair and was out the door before you could say, “Give me that Porsche!”
The real day started at 8:30 where she drove the rent a car over to BB’s, getting herself a small latte’. Then driving the ***** box, back to the dealership. Her day got a little better when she was walking down the street to Mickies and there was $50 on the footpath. Tina searched around her surroundings, to see if there were any kids laughing or any GOT YA camera’s around. After being satisfied that there was none of that around she picked up the $50 and put it in her purse. She looked up the heavens saying a silent prayer of thanx. Her day got even better when her boss called her cell a couple of minutes later saying that she can have a raise and also tonight off.
‘This is too good to be true.” she thought to herself, as she was almost at Mickies.
Walking up the footpath to the office door, she swung it open, her smile showing the world that nothing could go wrong today. She stepped up to the counter and rang the bell. Again, like the other day…No one answered. She did the same thing again, ringing the bell for a second time…Again nothing. “The really dont know what customer service is around here.” She reflected.
Again like the other day she called out…Yet this time there was no answer. All Tina could hear was ‘cold hard *****, by Jet’ being played over some sweet speakers.
She shouted once more before walking behind the counter and out to the Mechanics quarters. Surprisingly there was no one around. Tina looked at her watch to see that it was 10:00am. “Well someone must be here if the office door was open.” She proceeded further to the back, following the sounds of Jet being played on a car stereo. She walked around the corner to find a pair of brown King G’s and Ripped jeans poking out under an old Volvo.
“Ah hello.” Tina called.
All she got in reply was a harsh grunt that came from beneath the car bonnet. Tina was starting to grow impatient, she walk up to the old Volvo and tugged on the King G’s and pulled out the person from their job.
Tina was so surprised…
