Bette and Carey were sitting on the bus, driving home.
“Hey, can I talk to you?” Carey asked.
“Sure.” Bette said, sensing something was wrong.
“I saw you today.” He told her.
“Err, yeah, so?” Bette asked.
“I saw you with that Tina girl in the cafeteria.” He said.
“Yes, I was there with her in the morning. What is wrong?” Bette questioned.
“I would really appreciate it if you wouldn’t kiss her all over the place in public.” He said.
Bette frowned. “Carey, you know I’m gay, which means I kiss girls. Why can’t I?”
“Because it reflects badly on me. I’ve never told you this before but I am teased for having a gay sister. They call me fag sometimes. I don’t like that, B. If the girls begin to see me as gay, then I will never have a girlfriend again. I personally don’t have a problem with you being a lesbian, you know that. I’m totally cool with that. What I’m not cool with is that you don’t even consider the possibility that this could be bad for me.” Carey told his sister. Bette was a little taken aback by this.
“I’m sorry Carey. I didn’t think about that. I just… I just want to be able to act like everyone else.”
“I know you do and I wish you could but that isn’t the case now. You know that there are stupid people out there. Please, I’m just asking you to not kiss Tina where everyone can see it.”
Bette sighed. It wasn’t like her brother to ask her for anything. It probably wasn’t easy for him. “Okay, I won’t kiss her in school anymore.” She said. Carey smiled and hugged her.
“Thanks.” He told her.
Dear Diary,
Monday is over and I just arrived home. After I joined Tina and her friends, we all talked and laughed. Those are great girls. Dylan kept asking me questions about Helena and once Tasha found out that Alice is one of my friends, she also couldn’t shut up anymore. Those two have a crush on my friends and it’s so cute.
The last break of the day I didn’t see Tina, she had to stay longer in the classroom of Mr. Green. I don’t know why. She hasn’t sent me a text message yet. I don’t know what I did wrong. I am going to send her one in a few.
