    Discoveries – Chapter 1

As she awoke, Tina knew it was time to break out of this self-loathing and pull her life together, just as she had known for the last three days. She really wanted to jump up out of the bed and face all her friends and maybe even Bette, but the emptiness inside seemed to weigh her down. How could an empty heart be so heavy? She could hear Alice moving around the kitchen getting ready to go to work. Within minutes she would be knocking gently, just as she did everything around Tina. As if on que, Tina heard Alices light knock.

Tina, Im off, but I will be back by 2:00. Call me on my cell if you need anything, Alice reassuringly stated behind the closed door. Tina heard her hesitate. Alice hoping Tina would respond, and probably restraining herself from barging in and dragging Tina out of bed.

Soon Tina heard the door shut and let out a sigh. Not because Alice hasnt been great, so caring and supportive, but because she was left alone once again to deal with the situation. Tina walked to the bathroom and when washing her hands, got a good look at herself in the mirror. Well, what did I think I would look like? she asked herself. Her eyes were red and she had bags under them from all the tossing at night trying to find some sleep. Her hair was disheveled and unkempt and she had been in the same sweats for two days. She stared at herself for what seemed like an hour and then without thinking, she took a shower, changed into the jeans and shirt Alice had brought her and headed for her house.

Bettes car was still in the driveway and Tina was taken back. It was late morning and Bette should have been at the C.A.C. by now. The cab pulled away before Tina made a decision about whether she would go in or come back later. That is it, she thought as she watched the end of the cab disappear around the corner, I am not letting indecision complicate my life anymore. Good or bad Ill make things happen from now on.

Tina knocked on the door and could see Bette striding towards it. Tinas heart started to pound, and she felt her breathing increase as her palms became sweaty. Bette opened the door and looked hesitant. Tina, Im really glad to see you, Bette said and tried to come towards Tina. Tina pushed past her as she spoke, Im here to pack my things.

Tina went straight to the closet and took her suitcases out. Bette followed her to the bedroom. Arent you even going to talk to me? Bette pleaded. Im really sorry Tina. I never wanted to hurt you. I love you. Those last three words burned Tinas skin. Her whole body felt on fire. You love me, Bette? You love me? Tina screamed. It must have been love for me that made you ***** Candace. Tina started to walk towards Bette as she yelled, Because you love me you snuck around, lied to me and betrayed me. I dont want your love anymore Bette. That kind of love almost broke me.

Bette was silent, but tears were rolling down her face. Tina only felt more rage and continued, Let me get my things. Just get out of my sight for an hour and let me do this. If you really ever loved me, you will let me do this. Bette turned, picked up her keys and walked out the door. Tina heard the car start and race out of the driveway.

Tinas hands were shaking as she pulled out her clothes from the dresser and closet. She felt like crying but like a waterfall during a drought, the tears could not fall. She was done crying. Seeing Bette just confirmed her worst fears. There was only disgust and hate flowing through her veins. If she stayed in L.A. these feelings would rip her and Bette and all their friends apart. Tina finished packing and called a cab.
