Domino Effect, Chapter 1: Lies
There would be no reconciliation period. That was it, that was all, no going back to
the way things were. Everyone would
just have to deal with that. She was.
She’d already made up her mind.
Too abruptly, some would say.
Give it time.
Think it through.
All the arguments she knew she would hear from her friends
played through her mind, strangely clear considering the circumstances of all
the events that had been played out in the last 48 hours. In some ways, keeping the relationship
together was probably more important for them, especially Shane, than it was
for Tina.
It had put so many things in perspective for her, and now it
was time to take the reins of her life and race into the light of some new
beginning. Oscar had told her she
should speak to Bette, to find some sort of closure from her past to her
present. She scoffed at the idea.
She had nothing to say, nothing she wanted to hear. Intuitively, she knew the relationship was
foundering long before this single catastrophic event. But were it not for the small stresses and
strains that had crept in through the cracks in their relationship over the
years, habit replacing love, she might have waited, at least until she and
Bette had a chance to speak without having that irrepressible urge to bury her
teeth in Bette’s neck again.
She actually replayed the scene in her head, shoving her
hand inside of her, ripping the ***** from her like their baby had been torn
away from them. Gut wrenching and fully
impaled on the truth, the truth of the matter was Bette had cheated, broken the
bonds that had held them so close once.
She relived it. “I
know. I saw.” Her voice had been so
cold, so quiet. But she’d never been so
angry or expressed such rage. It both
frightened and exhilarated her. Such power
inside her had brimmed forth. She’d
never known. Not surprising,
really.
There’d been no place in her marriage for that, not for
her. By unspoken agreement, she and
Bette had their roles from first meeting, Bette in control and Tina acquiescing
with a smile and a “yes, dear”. They
played them wellto the very bitter end.
She’d been the submissive, and Bette had been the Domme. The role she’d never known that she’d taken,
but not understood it fully. All she
could do was pray that it wasn’t th role she’d been born to play. Never again.
