Eternal Flames—Prologue
2015
She stood in front of her best friend since they were 3 years old and said the very thing she never thought she would ever say after arguing for the thousandth time over the same topic
“I think I have come to a point I don’t want to continue this friendship any longer Bette and I will find another maid of honor”
It was out before she could even rethink it and the look on her best friend’s face was one of utter disbelief
“Are you serious Tina?” Bette questioned. Her resolve cracking. “You are willing to throw away our friendship of 20 years because I have reservations about you marrying Darren who you’ve only known for a year and half. Seriously?”
Bette walks toward Tina reaching out to her as the latter takes a step back raising her hand out to stop Bette’s movement
“You have never accepted him..Even when he and I started dating you hated him and accused him of cheating on me he tried to tell me you were making it up because you’re jealous. And you know what. I believe him. You are jealous!…I found the love of my life and you haven’t!. And that’s why you don’t want me happy making up these lies. But I’m happy and he makes me happy and if you can’t support me then I don’t need you!”
The words spewed like venom hitting Bette in her soul. She couldn’t believe Tina was so fucking oblivious that she couldn’t see what was staring her right in her face. What she refused to see. To acknowledge
“Get out then! Go marry the love of your life. But when it all comes crashing down don’t expect me to be there to help you pick up the pieces..And mark my words Tina. It ‘s going to happen but I won’t be there. You know why?.. Because you don’t need me!” Bette screamed as Tina’s poisonous words continued to strip her of the very life that lived for her. She turned and placed her hands on the chair at her kitchen table. Her back now facing Tina.
Tina instantly regretted what she had said but deep down she knew nothing would fix this. She loved Darren. He was the love of her life and her future and at that moment she chose him over the one person that she always called her twin flame.

What a great beginning and it tore my heart out, a friendship ruined because a man who cheated on Tina from the beginning it seems and she can’t see it and throws Bette away. Very painful.
And now 10 years have passed, Tina having a son, her only reason for joy in her life. Finally she catched her cheating lying husband and cries out for Bette, to apologize to her.
Bette promised in her letter to the Kennards to reach out to her via her cousin if they ever need her. I think her cousin is right, Tina did/do loves Bette as more as a friend and being scared probably projected it to Darren falsely with as result the ending of their friendship.
I’m looking forward how things are going to develop.
Very interesting story. With 20 yrs friendship why didn’t Bette tell Tina about her feelings. Now Tina will probably get divorced and want to resume her friendship with Bette again except Tina is in California and Bette is in NY. Can’t wait for the next chapters. Please don’t abandon the story. Happy Writing
What Tina needs right now is a good lawyer to start the divorce process. Tina needs to get everything out of this marriage including child support and most of the assets. If Darren has had a marriage ceremony performed with Emily, he may very well have committed the crime of bigamy. I wonder if Emily knows about this. He very well could be giving the residual of his assets to her and walk away with nothing. Friend who hung up knew something about this relationship and may need to appear as a witness. Anyway, Tina needs a tough, no holds barred lawyer. And that is what Bette practices in. Since it takes forever in California, I would recommend she move to New York were a divorce would be easier to obtain. And visitation arrangements will be harder to manage for dear Darren.
I am going to wait and see how Tina handles this apology. Is this something just to relieve her own guilt or is this something more? Could it develop into something more? But Bette is right, after 10 years of no association with each other, they are different people. And of course, to me the key is Carson. If Carson takes to Bette, the path forward will be easier. But if he wants to be his mom’s sole attention, well things could get rough. Of course, we need to find out how Bette feels about children as well. This may not be anything that she has ever considered. At this point, Tina and Carson are a package deal. You don’t get one without the other. This may take some time.
Great first chapter… lots of potential for this story. Thanks for writing… I hope to see a lot more.
Nice beginning. Please go on, looking forward to the next chapter :)
Wow. What a start to this story. Jaylyn is right, Tina is in love with Bette, too. This is a good, interesting story and I look forward to seeing how it develops.
Hola me gusto el inicio de esta historia para cuando el primer capitulo lo estoy esperando con ansias gracias.
Can’t wait for the next chapter!
Oh, that letter Bette (you) wrote is sooooo freaking good. I completely understand Bette’s first No to calling Tina, I’d do the same, but later…of course, Yes.
P.S. I waited for a few chapters to pile up because I knew I’d get antsy and addicted.
Thank you.
