Eyes of the Beholder
A brown eyed bombshell of a brunette was sitting at the bar studying the book that lay out in front of her. In this busy bar this woman was able to find her complete concentration on this book. Like all things in her life, she had a singular focus. Running her fingers along the page she smiled at what she uncovered. Beauty and tenderness, laughter and delight. This was what this book was about.
Her keen focus felt a shift in the air and she lifted her head as someone approached. With a smile she realized it was her friend, bartender, confidant and sometimes lover that approached.
Is the book good, the equally stunning if in a different way altogether woman asked
It is the best so far, the beauty responded with
Well, I have something for you.
Whats that?
A drink was set down before the brown eyes goddess and she smiled.
Someone has sent me a drink, was reasoned as more of a statement then any type of question
Someone has indeed.
What kind of drink?
Long Island Ice Tea.
She smiled at this, My favorite.
The bar tending babe smiled at this, I know. I suggested it.
With a tip of her head the beauteous bookworm smiled, Why would you be encouraging this kind of behavior? You know I dont really like woman sending me drinks.
This I know but there is something different about this one.
Oh yeah, whats that?
She didnt know how to send someone a drink, said the bar fly all around these parts knew as Shane
She didnt know how to send a drink, Bette Porter asked of the woman in front of her
It was really quite sweet. I suggested the tea and she sent it.
Are you still trying to set me up?
I want you to be happy Bette.
And I want that for you to Shaney, but its weird you trying to set me up.
No weirder then you trying to hoist your friend Dana off on me.
I was not trying to hoist my friend Dana off on you. I thought you would make a really cute couple.
Shane rolled her eyes to this.
Dont roll your eyes at me, said Bette with a grin
Sorry.
So this woman that sent me the drink, what does she look like?
Shane turned toward the other side of the bar to find this woman but she was nowhere to be found. Quickly she turned back to Bette.
She has long blond hair, the most beautiful brown eyes, pale skin that made you want to touch her and the cutest shy smile.
A shy smile?
Yes, a shy smile. She seems to have disappeared.
Perhaps sending the drink was too much for her nerves to handle.
Shane was about to agree when she caught movement from behind Bette and slightly to the left.
Or not. Shes approaching at your seven oclock.
Bette turned in her bar stool just as this mysterious drink sending stranger approached.
Hi, said the stranger, My name is Tina.
Hello Tina, I am Bette Porter.
Youre… Tina started to say but stopped when she noticed something, if for the first time
Blind, Bette interjected with the corners of her mouth lifting ever so slightly
WOO there it is. Tell me what you think!
