"Tina! Are you listening to me," I heard her screech.

"What? Yes, journalism, freedom to write, UCLA, Pulitzer. I heard you Alice," I mumbled.

"You only heard key words TK. Where are you? I’ve only known you like what a day? And I already know you’re acting weird. Where’s your head?"

"It’s right here, I’m fine!"

"No, you’re not. What’s wrong," she asks, then gasps, "It’s Bette isn’t it? I knew it! I knew right from the second I met you you were gay! That’s awesome."

"What’s awesome Al," Shane asked, as we reached her front door.

"Tina’s gay," she announced and my face flushed crimson.

"Alice, it’s wrong to make assumptions. Wether she is or not isn’t any of our business," Shane said and smiled at me. I was still in the dark about it, I didn’t even know what I was. But Alice outing me certainly didn’t help. After a few minutes Alice’s mom came to pick her up leaving me with Shane and Carmen. We all hopped into Kit’s Mustang and Shane followed my directions to my house. We surprisingly lived really close together. We said our goodbyes and planned to meet in the quad under the tree before class started.

"Don’t let Alice intimidate you, she’s just a big mouth. Always looking for a juicy story. Don’t worry, when it comes to her friends, she won’t say anything. She just wants to be the first to know anything."

"Thanks," I smile, "if I figure anything out, you’ll be the first to know."

I walk into the house and I smell the aroma of dinner. I seek out my mother and find her in the kitchen cooking. I can hear my brothers in the distance, playing their video games. I always wanted a sister, someone to talk to, especially about these feelings that I am having. I was still unsure of my feelings. I think I like girls. My friend Helena back home wanted to be my girlfriend. And secretly deep down, I wanted to be Bette’s. Ugh these feelings. I do date boys but I’ve never thought about dating a girl. Maybe I am gay. Seeing Bette, being turned on by her kind of confirmed it. It was scary but also relieving. But my biggest fear was that my parents will never accept it.
