Bette woke up from her thoughts as her cellphone rang. She checked the caller ID and to her surprise, she saw it was Nicole. Why on earth did she call her? Bette was torn between refusing the call out of anger and hurt and taking the call out of curiosity.

She was a woman after all, so the latter choice won.

“Hello?” She asked warily. She still wasn’t sure about Nicole’s intentions.

“Hi, Bette! I’m so glad you picked up, I was afraid you wouldn’t. Listen, we really need to talk about what happened.”

“Why? There’s no point,” Bette said flatly. She couldn’t bring herself to lie any emotion in her voice, drained as she felt.

“There is, Bette. I just… I don’t think I can ever get over you. I can’t forget you.”

“It seemed pretty easy to erase my very existence from your brain when you were shagging Melissa and that other girl – what was her name? Mandy? Sandy?”

“Bette, it wasn’t like that.” The brunette was not sure if the hurt in her ex’s voice was real or acted.

“What was it then?” Bette shouted angrily into the phone. “Whatever you call it, it’s the same. You fucked them, you shagged them, you banged them.”

“No, Bette, please -”

“WHAT? Honestly, what do you expect from me? To just forgive you again? Newsflash, I can’t. You hurt me too much and that’s that.”

“I don’t want this conversation over the phone. Is it okay if I drop by in ten minutes?”

“Why? Because you can’t manipulate me in the same way? And what makes you think I have time for you? Maybe I’m having friends over. Maybe I’m having a girl over I really like, and maybe I’m at her house.”

A silence fell and Bette smirked. “If you were at another girl’s house or she was with you, she wouldn’t be very important.”

“Yeah? Why is that?” Bette asked angrily. It felt like Nicole had just insulted Tina. Bette knew she was unfair, but Nicole had been as well.

“Because if you really cared for them, you wouldn’t have picked up the phone.” Bette could hear the triumph in her ex’s voice and was ready to explode.
