    Fate – Chapter 2

Bette Porter held a cup of iced coffee in hand, playing with the straw as she watched a beautiful redhead walk away from her. She looked down at a piece of paper with a phone number scribbled on it as she sighed deeply and walked over to her usual table at her favorite restaurant/hangout called ‘The Planet’. Her three best friends were already occupying chairs as they looked at her all with different expressions.

Bette’s friend on the left shook her head as her dirty blonde hair swayed back and forth on her shoulders, the brunette in the middle simply looked sad or maybe even envious, Bette couldn’t really tell sometimes. The one on the right seemed as laid back as ever but then again, Shane was always like that.

She and Bette understood each other on a level the other two couldn’t really reach. It was probably because they’ve both gone through their share of women. The only difference between them was that Bette was open to love, Shane pretty much ran from it.

The blonde pursed her lips at Bette whom shrugged innocently before taking her seat, "What?"

Her friend watched as Bette placed the paper down on the table, "You’re not planning to call her are you?"

Bette brought the straw to her lips saying a simple, "Maybe" before sipping her drink.

The blonde raised her eyebrows in surprise, "What was wrong with that one?"

Bette frowned as she shrugged again, "I don’t know. Nothing"

Shane broke off a piece of her scone, "Oh come on, lay off her Alice. What’s the big deal anyways?"

Alice shrugged innocently, "I’m not doing anything. I’m just saying that’s like the 4th girl in a row she’s turned down. Its not like her to be so…I don’t know celibate for so long. I mean Bette, you had a successful gallery event last week and you didn’t even take anyone home. That’s odd, even for you"

A waitress brought over a bowl of fruit to the table and placed it in front of Bette. Grabbing her fork, Bette poked a piece of watermelon and made a face.
