Fears Tears and Years
Chapter 5
A little over three months in at
Yale and Angie loved every minute of it. This was truly the most exciting time
of her life. Yet she was looking forward to going home for Thanksgiving for an
extended weekend visit.
As much as she hated to admit it
she missed her Mom. Although since she was 15 her relationship with her Mother
had taken a turn for the worse. Angie knew she had not been anymore difficult
to handle than the average teenager except for her realization that she liked
girls.
This revelation had certainly
strained her relationship with her parents. Funny she should consider Henry in
that category because he had in no uncertain terms let her know after the
Sydney incident he no longer considered her his daughter. However his treatment
of her was not much different than it had been growing up in the Young
household. He had always seemed so cold and indifferent towards her and Angie
was use to it.
Her Mom on the other hand had
surprised Angie in that she had only cautioned her about safe sex and advised
her to protect her heart during the embarrassing Sydney time in her life. Her
Mom had gone on to say that no matter who she loved it was ok and she would
always love her. Angie had never expected such a cool attitude toward her
sexuality from her reserved Mom.
However if Angie was truthful she
had to say that over the last three years of her life living at home after Tina
and Henry divorced she had noticed a big difference in her quiet, introspective
Mother. She smiled more often and laughed much more frequently.
Angie hoped that Tina could some
day put her time with Henry behind her and find someone to love her and make
her happy.
Angie was doing great balancing her
studies with work. She was at the top of her classes but she just wished she
had the opportunity to make more money.
Many times in the last month some
of her new friends or her roommate was going out for a night on the town as a
stress reliever from all the studying and had invited Angie to go.
But each time she had told them no
because what little money she earned through her work./study program went for
things required for her classes or things she needed personally. She was so
glad her Mom gave her a cell phone and paid the bill right before she left for
college. Otherwise she knew she could not afford one on her own.
