     Flower Power:  Chapter 8

    A blanket of restlessness covered Bette Porter as she attempted to sleep.  Thoughts of the previous night raced around the crowded speedway of her mind.  The exhausted female wished a cop would pull her over for the insanity occurring inside her head.  This had to be illegal.  These thoughts, these feelings, this downward spiral of her own creation couldn’t possibly be lawful. Glowing numbers silently announced 2:17 a.m. Bette placed a small kiss on Alice’s smooth neck and watched her sleep for a few seconds.  A small sigh escaped the tired woman as she slipped out of the protective hold of her girlfriend.  Even in her sleep, Alice claimed Bette as her own.    

     

    The thought of leaving a note for her girlfriend didn’t occur to Bette. Alice knew where she would be.  Sometimes when sleep was miles away, Bette turned to the one thing she could take refuge in no matter what.  Not many people understood why – but Alice did.  And so did Tina.  Both women understood Bette’s innate drive and undeniable passion.    

     

    A weak smile accessorized previous day’s clothes as Bette unlocked the door to her gallery. She ran her hands up and down her arms to rid the sharp chill that embraced her.  After locking herself in, Bette’s limber body slid down the thick door and landed on the hard floor.  She rested her head in both hands and looked out into the darkness of her universe.    

     

    Thoughts of Tina played a game of tag around visions of Alice.  Tina was wonderful. Fucking hot was more like it. But Tina was married. Unhappily married, but married nonetheless.  That should mean something.  Shouldn’t it?

     

    Alice was …well, Alice was Alice.  Quirky, funny, warm and sweet. Pretty. Hell in bed.  Last night however, she seemed a little needy causing Bette to feel smothered and trapped.  Bette didn’t like that feeling.

     

    Led by her thoughts, Bette pushed herself off the floor and paced the hardwood floor in stocking feet.  Turning on a soft light, she observed works of art so strategically placed for viewing.  Her eyes slowly wandered from piece to piece.  She briefly observed depth, color and meaning before moving on to the next.  She wondered if she was doing the same in life – just wondering from woman to woman.  Observing but not fully appreciating.  Indulging but not committing.

    5. Hmmm…..ALice dumped Bette….great twist. Bette is so arrogant when she tells Alice, she is going to miss her, but sexy at the same time. How does she do that? ( or should I say, “how do you do that?” LOL!) These two were always just friends with benefits. Alice keeps falling for women who keep cheating on her. First Gabby and now Bette. What’s up with that? I wonder once Tina finds out that Bette’s not in a relationship anymore, if she will pursue more than just “Mondays”? Only you know the answer to that, greentea. So, I sit and wait…..anxious for more. Post soon.

    9. Why is Alice breaking up with Bette? Isn’t Alice the one that told Bette that she was her “…transitional relationship…her Plan B…her something-to-do until Miss Right comes along?” Alice also told Bette “”I don’t do love remember…And even if I did Bette, I wouldn’t be in love with you…Do you actually think I’m that crazy?” Oh well, whatever the reason, I think it is better for Alice that she did let Bette go. Alice needs to find someone to love that will love her back with all their heart and soul. I just love the way you write Greentea and this story has me totally intrigued. Thanks G! More please!!!

    12. I’m really enjoying this Bette and Alice. They are good together and will make excellent friends now that the romance is over. Some folks help to prepare you for the next person in your life.

    14. This is really screwed-up! I’m glad Alice dumped Better, but sorry that she lost her love. Tina’s a cheating scank who doesn’t really seem to be leaving her husband and child and like Bette is just selfish. Bette needs to grow up and learn what it takes to be in a real relationship where she can give all of herself to one person. Great post as usual, still waiting to see where this ends up.

    15. Another thought….If Bette can let Alice go that easily, without so much as a lets try again, well then I guess that says a lot about her feelings and maybe Bette should think about that….can’t wait for more. But greeny easy on the drama pls….and thanks

    16. Oh, pls don’t be finished with them like that…I liked the bette who was with Alice. God Tina fucks everything up and good sometimes!!! Go back and make bette try a bit harder….thanks for the post…loved it, only a few tears!!

    17. This story is so amusing whilst still managing to be sad at the same time. Shane geeking out over the video games, and then this here: “Bette watched as pain ripped through Alice’s face leaving a path of destruction. She witnessed the strong force uproot their relationship before tossing it in the air like pizza dough. It landed upside down miles away. Trust spun out of control before it collided head-on into hope. Both died instantly.” That had me laughing even as I felt so bad for both Bette and Alice… they both want something they aren’t getting. Tina had better make up her mind, Bette deserves more. Great update greentea, thank you!
