“Fuck.  Dana I need you.  I don’t know what to do” Shane whispered.  She then let out a sigh and opened the folder.   

Chapter 5 –

Shane opened the folder and let out a small laugh.  Leave it to Dana to make sure the folder had everything, including a Table of Contents.  Shane skimmed the Table of Contents, but did not find anything that stuck out.  Unfortunately Dana did not have a section for “if I am in a coma and may never wake up, here is what I want done.”  Shane flipped to the next page and was surprised to find a letter written in Dana’s hand writing addressed to her.

Dear Shane,

            It feels weird writing this letter since I am meeting you and Alice at the Planet this afternoon.  It’s kind of funny that I am writing this and you do not even know about the folder yet.  I hope you accept the folder and never have to open it, but incase you do I am writing this.

            Knowing you, you have opened this folder hoping it will help make a decision that Alice cannot bring herself to make.  Please do not look any farther than this letter, I did not make a list of decisions for you.  Sorry.

            Alice told me many times over the years that she called you Yoda because you are wise and always knew what to do.  She told me to always take your advice because you were always right.  So far I have and I have never regretted it.  I have always trusted you and believed in you.  Oh, and you drive her nuts because you never take your own advice.    

            So you want to know what to do.  Do what you believe in you heart is best and right.  Honestly, if I could make any of these decisions for myself I would ask you and Alice what you think I should do.  That is why I gave you both the folders.  So pretend it is me asking instead of whomever and tell them the same thing you would tell me.

            If something does happen and it is my time to go, there are letters for everyone in my desk at the condo.  Please give them to everyone.  Also, please take care of Alice for me.  I know I have not been a good friend to her recently and I hate myself for it.  After all the hell I have put her through she has still stuck by me every step of the way.  I love her so much.  I let her slip away because I was scared and I wasn’t there for her when she needed me.  Now I may never get the chance to let her know just how much she means to me.  Please take care of her Shane and don’t let her forget how much I love her.  I don’t know what I would do if I ever lost her and I can only imagine how hard this is for her. 

            Shane, do what is right in your heart and everything will be okay.  Thank you for everything.  I love you.

Shane finished reading the letter, wiped away the tear rolling down her cheek, and closed the folder.  Shane walked over to Dana and gave her a kiss on the cheek.  “I love you too” she whispered.  “I am gonna do what’s in my heart and what I think is best for you.  Don’t worry about Alice.  She’s in good hands…your hands.”  Shane looked down at Alice and Dana holding hands and smiled.  Shane gave Dana another kiss and left the room in search of Dana’s doctor.
