And then, the bomb dropped.
On Thursday evening, a special televised segment appeared on Fox News. It was later re-broadcast by CNN, MSNBC, BBC News, & NPR. Sean Hannity hosted a discussion with Trisch Young, Kenneth Copeland, Jerry Falwell Jr. and Joel Osteen. The focus of the discussion was not on the murder of Henry Young, but on the manipulation of a young woman named Stephanie Wilcox. She was the mother of Henry’s son and Steven Kennard’s dirty little secret.
Stephanie appeared on the show with her son and told all of America about how Steven Kennard had urged her to seduce Henry. And that once she was pregnant, he insisted that she get an abortion. She had taped conversations with him, just in case she’d ever need them. And then there was another audio snippet of him discussing the foolish idolatry of his conservative investor base. That they were sheep who viewed him as a martyr and that his daughter should be well-advised that he would stop at nothing to make her pay for her insolence.
The pastors branded him a false prophet and self-aggrandizing sinner.
Murder of a grown man for the sake of God’s kingdom was acceptable.
But abortion was something none of them could condone under any circumstances.
Steven Kennard had made them out to be fools.
This would not do.
By noon on Friday, Starbird Capital was tanking, investors were yanking their funds left and right. Competing firms offered to cover their contract and brokerage fees. Steven Kennard became penniless overnight.
And while the show was airing, Bette finally threw off her robe. She jumped in the shower and washed away the grit and grime from her hair. She packed two large suitcases and quietly packed her car before driving off into the night.
Her red coupe pulled into the parking lot of a private airstrip and an attendant greeted her warmly.
“Ms. Porter, we’ve been expecting you,” he said with a smile.
She nodded in return and handed him her keys before another attendant led her to the private jet which was parked inside a nearby hangar. She sat down in an ivory colored, leather seat, and exhaled. And then she was served an orange juice and container of warm nuts. Once her bags had been loaded and they were cleared for takeoff, she settled into her chair and eventually sleep found her.
Bette didn’t open her eyes again until the aircraft was taxiing down the runway. She then stretched and yawned before rubbing the sleep from her eyes. When it was safe to do so, she went into the little bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face.
After parking in another hangar, the aircraft engine shut down and the pilot stepped out of the cockpit to greet her. The pilot was a woman and Bette warmly shook her hand before the hatch was opened and she squinted her eyes against the bright sunlight pouring into the building.
Tina was standing there, waiting for her, wearing a big smile, tears streaming from her eyes. Bette rushed toward her and lifted her in the air, nearly crushing the love of her life with the power of her embrace.
“Babe, we did it!” said Tina. “We did it!”
Bette was crying now. “T, I missed you so much. This was so hard.”
“I know. But it worked. It paid off. We did it!” said Tina. She wiped away her lover’s tears and kissed her lips.

I am soooooooo glad you posted that warning. Because when it was mentioned that the cameras had been removed I really thought Bette was drinking and doing coke. I am curious as to why they felt the act was necessary if the cameras were gone. And why did they remove any of the cameras? Wouldn’t that have tipped off Papa Kennard? Did they want to tip off Daddy Dearest? Even as an act having Bette pretending to drink and Tina pretending to say those things to her had to be hard on Bette. Obviously they assumed there were cameras that did not get removed? I have so many questions. Forged in Fire is right!!!!!!

You really had me there MTS! Ok, so I didn’t pee, but my stomach dropped like a barrel over Niagara Falls. Can’t wait to read the next chapter!
Yay!!! At least you didn’t Pee!!! LOL….glad u read the warning. I didn’t want to have people fall out of their roller coaster cars.
What happened? Was Bette drinking or not? There was an awful lot of booze around the house….after twelve days of “fake sobriety” . Well if this drunken stuff were real, she should be close to death with alcohol poison. Bette must be quiet the actress herself. So when the news came that Star Bird was out of business, what that when the show ended?
I’m still reeling from what the hell happened here? Too much of a cliff hanger. And will the end of money for Steven really end his pursuit of Tina? And why does he keep at it? A psychopath for sure…. And sorry but the Christian royalty? The death of Henry was meaningless but the request for an abortion which did not happen was unforgivable? And that is what brought down the financial empire of Steven Kennard? Oh well… couldn’t happen to a more worthy person!!!
When Bette went and got on a plane, I expected she was checking herself into an institution for rehab. Someplace private and perhaps catering to the wealthier clients. But when Tina appears at the door of the hanger? And we did it? I need to go see about a drink for myself after that….
Great story…. I am absolutely flabbergasted! I’m still trying to get my breathing back to normal….
Now this is a cliffhanger….do not keep us dangling long!!
I have lots of questions about the chapter. If the cameras were removed it seems like Bette might really have been doing those things? If not that is one rough acting job to put an addict through. Poor Bette. Tina really went at her. Not sure it was all an act. I also thought Bette was going to rehab. If the article and Henry and the girl and the abortion were out there and took down Daddy Kennard and company, why put an already fragile Bette through that? And it seems that he will want to get Bette more now than ever.

So, I’m still there. Catch up that parts. Ok, so it’s was a trick, but why so complicated? And why they flying away? I guess we find out later.

That was a bumpy ride, MTS! I really thought that Bette totally fell off the wagon. Lots of booze and other drugs on top of that. I was quite distraught that Bette had such a bad relapse. Why wouldn’t she be encouraged not to drink by the story of Tara?
Though it felt like I missed a chapter (read the last one again). That’s why I started to read this one again and again, looking for clues to the setup.
Great work! I have some theories on their plans. Very similar to the the ones already posted. But maybe they removed not every camera or mic to lull Darth Kennard and his henchmen into a false sense of security. Pretending not to have found every surveillance gadget.
T emphasized the lying, the secrets as being her reason to leave. A strong argument to burn her bridges to Bette. Especially if she allegedly went to the press about her fathers lies and secrets afterwards to make a clean break with him as well. That all would make it very believeable that she left Bette for good. That would take Bette out of the game and out of the line of fire.
Oh but wait! Something’s not adding up with this theorie…. Hmm. gotta read again ;-)
MTS, you got my mind working again. Thank you for that! That is one of the many reasons I love this story or more your book.

I didn’t read the warning and my heart is still pounding away. Initially, I had a gut feeling that this is for show…Killer Kennard. I surely hope it is an act. It’s really, really hard to stop a psychopath. They are often very, very singleminded.

I was wondering if you could remind me again how long this Bette and Tina have known each other In this fused reality and if Bette has any subconscious memories or anything associated with her past adventures for lack of a better word. I know she is not supposed to but I have so much empathy for Bette. I wish Dana could make one more appearance and tell her she IS going to be ok.

In this reality, they have known each other around 8 months or so. Bette has no memory of her time travel event or her past life. And she has no memory of the Dana that was a dimensional overlap. So…she’s kinda out of luck there. But…never fear Billy. Bette might just have more support along the way.
I came back and read the story again. I was confused by the info that the cameras were removed,,,at first! Daddy Kennard is a sly and devious character so…..maybe Tina and Bette pulled a trick out of daddy’s bag. In order to pull off their fight and breakup they only removed some of the cameras knowing there were more so dear old dad would buy into the breakup. Just a hunch! Please post again soon…I need to know where the girls are, hiding from the media or still worried about Daddy’s connections and repercussions from the religious right losing a lot of money! Lots of ends to be tied up before there is closure. What will happen with Tina’s sister and mother? Love this story and all the twists and turns. Great job.

Wow, back to a rollercoaster as I’ve caught up on the missing chapters due to my technical difficulties over here in the UK.
