    Friendship Foundation Chapter 20

    ********

"She was jealous!" Bette exclaimed. "But did you see the look of relief on her face when she realized you were with me? It was as if the threat of your presence vanished."

"I would never want her to think I was a threat," Tina said. "But obviously Grant had mentioned me in previous conversations with her."

"So you two weren’t just in school together, were you?"

"No, we dated all through freshman year," Tina admitted.

"Oh my God, teen lust," Bette said. "No wonder he spilled his guts to his wife about it."

"He asked me to marry him Christmas of sophomore year and that’s when we broke up," Tina said.

"Wow. So he spilled his guts to his wife about the first woman he ever proposed to. No wonder she was relieved to know you were with me."

"I’m getting a better understanding of why I knew I had to say no when he asked," Tina said. "On the surface, our relationship seemed like everything I could have wanted."

"When you look back, why do you think you said no?"

"Just a feeling," Tina said. "I knew it would be a mistake."

"And what does it feel like to be with me?"

"I have a connection to you that I’ve never felt before," Tina said. "Even when I’m not with you, I feel comforted by the times we’ve shared together."

"It’s not about being with a man or a woman," Bette said. "Because I’m having those feelings for the first time and it’s not for lack of trying to connect with other women."

"It feels like I’m living a second adolescence," Tina said. "Feeling tentative, wondering if someone is right for you."

"It’s feeling more right every day," Bette said quietly. "Come to bed, Tee, we can keep talking and be more comfortable."

They were soon curled up together; only Bette’s bedside lamp cast a light glow on the room.

"I was glad we had a chance to socialize at the end of the night," Bette said. "Nice antidote to the interaction I had with Eric before you had to leave."

"It was best I had to go to a work meeting, or I might have wallowed in my own self pity," Tina said.

"You hardly seem like the wallowing type," Bette held her tighter.

Tina propped herself up on one elbow and looked at Bette.

"I like you, you know," Tina said. A small smile teased at the corner of her mouth.

"I like you too," Bette replied. "I expect you to be in my life forever."

Tina leaned in to kiss her, and soon felt Bette’s hands holding her face and deepening their kiss.

A quiet moan escaped from Tina and Bette moved away to speak.

"I’m looking forward to seeing how many of those noises I can get you to make," she whispered quietly. "And I can’t wait to taste you…"

She finished with another toe curling kiss that Tina felt her whole body respond to.

"But not tonight," Bette said as the kiss ended. "They’re your rules, and I’m sticking to them."

She rolled over to turn off the light, and then returned for a more innocent embrace.

"You know you’re driving me crazy, right," Tina asked quietly.

"The anticipation really is making this particularly enjoyable," Bette replied.

Tina turned her head to kiss Bette’s neck.

"Suppose I decided I wanted to speed things up a little?" Tina asked.

"But not when we both have to be at work early the next day," Bette said. "We want to be able to take our time and not worry about what meeting we’re going to be exhausted for."

"I know you’re right," Tina replied. She settled into the crook of Bette’s neck and closed her eyes. "But I reserve the right to try to talk you into something more this weekend."

Tina didn’t really think much convincing would be necessary.

    1. Swimmie, your writing is so exquisite as it flows along so smoothly. I’ve enjoyed every story you’ve ever written. The pace of their developing relationship is perfect as was the dialogue between them. Thank you! Sorry I didn’t comment last chapter, not because I didn’t want to it was because I wanted to continue the read. I’m so happy!

    2. Swimmie, you’re awesome. The way talk and communicate is just wonderful. Every relationship be like that, but too bad they’re not. Like Tina, the anticipation is killing, but I’ll play by Bette’s rule.

    3. I don’t think much convincing is necessary on Tina’s part either… the waiting seems to be more for Tina’s benefit than Bette’s. The anticipation is going to be big, but I think it’s going to more than meet up with expectations. Great chapter, jks. Thanks for posting. :)

    4. Savoring each word in each chapter. Spectacular writing. You are so talented. Will you go further w/this story, describing their interactions after the “big bang” moment? ;-)

    5. =) The weekend can’t come soon enough for this new couple. I had a feeling they won’t last a week more without being intimate. It would be interesting to see how they both react when they finally consummate their relationship, when they make love to someone they deeply care about. It’s always a delight to read your posts, jks. Thanks a lot and cheers to the new beginnings in your life! =)

    6. @azmama re: Can one be considered a GF or BF in an adult relationship w/o sex having occurred? What makes one a GF/BF? In this case they said they (B&T in this story) would be exclusive/monogamous independent of whether or not they were having a physical relationship. I absolutely have had relationships as an adult where the person I was with was referring to me as his/her gf and we hadn’t progressed to a physical relationship. There was still an expectation of monogamy in both diretions (or … celibacy I guess), but in the instances I let my mind wander back to, I was certainly completely committed enough to the relationship to feel comfortable saying I was someone’s gf. People can be married and not have sex and they’re still married, so what makes someone a gf is having someone call them that, by my estimation! Although, I got to a point where the term girlfriend just grated on me and now I far prefer “partner”. azmama – always asking the pertinent and insightful questions – that’s my thought on the matter, though I’m sure there are other opinions.
