    Genesis: Chapter 8

Tina watched the slender dark haired woman before her, her long fingers casually tearing apart a napkin.  The young woman seemed unusually crestfallen, and it appeared to having something to do with the new couple dancing and cooing on the floor.  She arched her eyebrow questioningly, seeing all the dots and still unable to connect them.  Turning her attention to her tipsy wife, who at this very moment was building a pyramid of empty shot glasses, Tina rolled her eyes.  Bette, why must you insist on building that every time we have shots?  You know it only ends up broken on the floor, with us once again paying for the glasses!  She chastised the curly haired woman, letting a slight grin curl on her lips.  She really loved seeing the playful side of Bette, and since Shane had come into their life, her lover had softened her demeanor.

I refuse to believe that I can only build it up five levels!  The mocha colored woman furled her brow in frustration.  Alice said she got it up to seven, and I am not letting a short journalist beat me!  She waved in the direction of the waitress holding up three fingers and signaling for more tequila.

At this point Shane looked up at her friends, grinning slightly at Bettes frustration and Tinas obvious disdain for the pyramid.  I got it up to nine levels once.  She stated it matter-of-factly enjoying the shock look on Bettes face, before it was replace with a look of pure determination.  Despite the rather new predicament she found herself in, she couldnt help teasing her drunken friend.

Dont encourage her!  Tina threw her arms up in mock frustration.  Those glasses are quite expensive  She smiled at the young woman across the table.  Shanesomethings upyou are supposed to be celebrating, but you seem…distracted.  Reaching across the table she pulled the torn napkin away from her friend.  Is it that Alice has found someone?

No!  The bewildered woman shook her head furiously.  Im happy Alice has someoneI just dont really thinkthat Gabby is  She dropped her head and studied the table before her.  Shane hated gossip; she hated getting into other peoples business as well.  She cared for Alice and felt that she should know that Gabby had already cheated on herStill than she would have to admit that she slept with her best friends girl.  *****!  Never mindI just remembered that I haveahto work tonightso Ill see you later.  Quickly standing up, Shane retreated to the exit.  She needed some fresh air and time to think.
