    Ch 23

    A few hours later

    Bette’s POV

    The Governor of California is apologizing to Shane profusely over the mis-managed incident.  Lt Davis and I were being asked to stand aside for the show.

    "Thank you for being so tolerate with the inconvenience caused by this incident.  Once again, I represent the police authority to apologize to you again."

    "There is no need, I am sure they were only acting in the interest of the general public.  The important thing is the innocents are protected." Shane smiles confidently, shaking the governor’s hand.

    "If you don’t need me here, I have a meeting to attend.  Excuse me." She adds.

    "Miss McCutcheon.  I have a letter for you." I step into her track and she hesitates for a moment.  "It’s from Carmen." I lower my voice so only she can hear me.

    She flashes me a quick smile and put the letter in her pocket.

    Alice reappears to pick up Shane from the station.  After this saga, it’s gonna be a long day for me.  Better call Tina not to wait for me tonight. What’s going to happen to Carmen and Shane now? Have I nailed the final nail to their relationship?  Tina is gonna be so mad at me.

    After Shane left, Lt Davis and I were called into the Chief’s office. This isn’t going to be pleasant.

    "Davis, this is a shamble.  The station was in chaos, and to make it worst you arrested the most famous philanthropist as a theft suspect? Are you out of your mind?"  It’s Davis’ turn to be screamed at by the Chief.  This is a chain of screaming I am witnessing today… soon enough that will be me.

    "Chief, we had sufficient evidence to charge her!" Davis defenses.

    "Where are the evidences?" Chief asks.

    "It’s gone now." Davis replies.

    "How?" Chief asks.

     

    "We don’t know, but Shane must have done something during the 20 minutes fire lock down. I can feel it!" Davis grinds her teeth.

    "Evidence?" Chief’s patience is running low.

    "No sir, but if you give us some time…" Davis is getting desperate by the minute.

    "I have heard enough and frankly, I am very disappointed in you, the two of you in fact.  You had already reviewed the security tapes, Shane was in the room the whole time.  She had nothing to do with your incompetence. Take two weeks off!  Let me deal with this." He shouts loudly banging his fists on the table.

    1. Wow! Excellent update. I love it. I’m happy to see that their break-up was part of the plan. These two are to cute together.I hope Bette won’t pay to much attention to the necklace thing. Anyway how the hell did Shane manage to do that tape?
