It had been one week since the engagement, and Bette and Tina still hadnt told the others. They also hadnt been going out much and had been spending a lot of time alone together. Alice had kept calling to invite them to go out with the rest of the group but they always declined saying they had plans. Bette wondered if Tina was avoiding going out with the group because she was unsure about everything and was getting scared that Tina was going to change her mind. On Friday night, Tina came over like she had been doing all week and they had dinner together. Their conversation was light but intimate, and Tina never thought she could feel so happy. She loved having Bette all to herself for a little while but she knew the inevitable was close. They would have to tell the others.

After dinner they were snuggling on the couch when Bette said, Babe, I was wondering, when do you think would be a good time to tell the others about us? Oh baby, we will tell them soon. I just love how its you and me right now, replied Tina, who could sense that there was underlying concern in Bettes question. She snuggled deeper into Bettes embrace and said, How about this, why dont we have a barbeque on Sunday and invite them all over. That way we can tell everyone together? Bette smiled and said, Sure baby. Tina smiled up at Bette and sat up. She looked into her eyes and said, I cant believe we are actually doing this. I knowI love you so much, replied Bette, leaning in to kiss Tina softly on the lips. Tina gave her a soft peck then stood up reaching out to Bette to lead her into the bedroom. As they were walking hand in hand to the bedroom Tina leaned into Bette and said rather suggestively, Until Sunday however, you are all mine. Both women shared what can only be considered a laugh between lovers as they shut the door behind them.

Sunday came around and Alice and Shane were wondering why Bette and Tina were being so secretive about the big news they had for everyone. Alice tried prying it out of Tina, ***** she even tried getting Bette to tell her, but both women were guarded on what information they did give as to not spoil the surprise. Promptly at 1pm the doorbell rang at Bettes and Alice, Dana and Shane were standing there eagerly waiting the festivities to begin. Tina ushered them in and Alice looked around and said, Okay you guys, seriously, what is going on? Tina just laughed and said, Dont worry Alice, youll know soon enough. She had purposely not worn the ring Bette gave her because she was sure Alice would shout something out the minute she saw it. Dana and Shane were laughing at Alice and Tina when Kit let herself in. Hey everyone, what is so funny? Dana replied, Alice is being nosy again and is mad because Bette and Tina havent let her in on the secret yet. Well good for them, said Kit as she hugged Tina. Bette came out of the kitchen with a plate full of chicken and vegetables and said hello to everyone.

They all followed her to the backyard where the grill was on and soon the smell of food and the sound of laughter filled the air. They ate and talked about everything. Alice filled Bette and Tina in on the latest gossip she heard at Milk, and Dana told them about her training and the tournament she had coming up in a few weeks. When they were done eating Bette pulled Tina inside and said, Do you think its time to tell them? I think so because Alice is going to go insane pretty soon, replied Tina. Bette smiled at her as Tina reached into the pocket of her khakis to slip on her ring. Bette took Tinas left hand with her right and they walked back outside to their guests.

Bette looked at Tina who gave her a go ahead look and smiled. Um everyone, Tina and I have an announcement to make. All eyes were on them and it got very quiet as the group waited for Bette to continue speaking. Well, I guess theres no point in beating around the bush, Yeah, said Alice. Bette smiled at her and Tina replied, Okay here goes, with a quick look at Bette she continued, A week ago Bette asked me to marry her and I said yes. Were engaged! Everyone broke out in smiles and congratulations as they all hugged one another and Bette and Tina. Wow, this is so amazing you guys, said Alice. Yeah congrats. We are so happy for you, said Shane. Aww my baby sister finally got it right, said Kit who pulled Bette in for another hug. Damn Porter, its about time, said Alice who moved just out of arms reach as Tina swatted at her playfully. Well lets see the ring, said Alice as Tina extended her left hand for the others to see. Bette put her arm around Tinas waist and smiled at her as the other girls giggled happily seeing these two so in love. So whens the wedding? asked Shane, who was looking at them longingly, wishing she could be as happy as these two. Well we havent gotten that far yet, but it will be sometime soon hopefully, said Tina. We are just going to have a small ceremony, you know, close friends and family, said Bette. So is this going to be like an actual wedding? asked Dana, who was still a little unsure about the logistics of same-***** marriages. Bette smiled at her and said, Yes Dana, it is going to be a real wedding. Legalized and everything thanks to the new California Law. Oh, cool, said Dana, feeling slightly dorky for even asking such a question. Well when we start planning everything we will definitely be asking for help, so started Tina who was cut off by Kit, Of course, anything you need we are here for you. Bette and Tina smiled at the group as they finished eating and enjoyed the rest of the evening with their friends.
