Chapter 12 – Meltdown

God, Im stuffed I think we might need 911 to wheel me to the ER for overindulgence. Shane smiled at this. She hadnt been sure her cooking skills were up to par and she had so much wanted this night to be special. Lately shed been feeling that she and Alex were growing apart. So many things had been going wrong and she had to do something to recapture what they once had. But when she looked into those dark brown eyes, she wondered if it had ever gone. She wanted to tell Alex how much she loved her, but she couldnt bring herself to voice her emotions. Instead she opted for a safer subject.

Hows Nicky doing? Alex let out a deep sigh.

Shes doing alright considering She took in a deep breath not sure if she should tell Shane what shed done. Then she chided herself. She wouldnt keep secrets from her. Secrets were the sure fire way of ruining any relationship. After all, honesty was one of the pillars of any good relationship.

Shes doing better than Steven Jaffe will be.

Alex, what have you done? Shane let out softly not sure she wanted to know the answer. Shed seen the look on Alex face after shed seen Nicky lying in that hospital bed and it had scared her. She didnt often see that side of Alex and she hoped it would stay that way. She had almost been able to taste the rage that simmered just beneath the surface.

Do you think I would hurt him? Alex looked closely at the emotions playing along Shanes face. Normally her face was a picture of neutrality except when it was just the two of them. It had taken Shane a long time to be able to let her guard down. To let Alex in on her feelings. Into that part of her that she kept hidden from most.

I dont know would you? Shane looked down at the table afraid of what Alex would say. She loved this woman with all her being and she loved all of her. She just wasnt sure she knew all of Alex though. Sometimes it felt like there was so many more things to her. Things she carefully kept hidden from the people around her. But sometimes these things would bubble to the surface until Alex had regained enough control to quash them and put them back where she hid them.
