    A day at the park …

    Tina is lazing around the house in her new favorite t-shirt, the gray one with the big USCG on it.  She’s been surfing the net and now starts grading papers.  Her cell phone rings.  She sees Bette’s name.

     

    “Hey you,” she answers.

     

    “Hi Tina.  How are you?”

     

    “I’m good.  Just having a lazy day.  Are you working today?”

     

    “Negative.  That’s why I’m calling.  You can say no and I won’t be offended. But I wanted to offer.  I’m taking my honorary niece to the park for the afternoon.  She called and conned me into it.  So Hannah, Sam and I are going to the park.  Would you like to join us?”

     

    “Who’s Sam?”

     

    “My german shepherd.  He loves the park too.  I’d love you to come, but if you have other plans I understand completely.”

     

    “Let’s see … spend the day inside grading papers or spend an afternoon with you, a kid and a dog.  Not your most compelling argument Porter.”

     

    “I know.  If you don’t want to…”

     

    “Bette I love kids.  I’m a teacher remember.  I’d love to.”

     

    “Ok, I’ll pick you up in an hour.”

     

    “See you then.”

     

    Tina spends the next forty-five minutes stressing about what to wear.  She finally decides to stay in Bette’s t-shirt.  She also wears her favorite pair of jeans and sneakers.

     

    There is a knock at the door.  Tina opens it to see Bette and four year old Hannah.  

     

    “Hi” Bette greets her.  Her eyes light up when she sees Tina’s t-shirt.

     

    “Hi” Tina replies.

     

    “Tina this is Hannah, Hannah this is my friend Tina.”

     

    Hannah is shy and ducks behind Bette.  “She’s shy at first.  Are you ready?”

     

    “Sure.”  Tina grabs her purse and a small cooler.

     

    They walk to the parking lot where Tina sees Bette’s jeep no longer has a top or doors.  She sees a large german shepherd in the back seat next to Hannah’s car seat.

     

    Bette loads Hannah into the car seat and climbs in.  Tina is already seated.  “That’s Sam” Bette gestures to the back seat.

     

    “I gathered.  No doors?”

     

    “No.  Is that a problem?”

    7. I love our girls in this story, they are getting right to the heart of the matter. They are such fun and reading how they interact with each other is just wonderful. They are being so sweet towards one another. They are being very maure about being in a relationship with each other. I love it. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzhappy New Year to you and yours. Post when you can.
