Hold On – Chapter 4
“Fucking bullshit,” Shane muttered as she walked down the back corridor
of Liquid and headed for the red exit sign at the end of the hallway.
She could hear Alice behind her, shouting at her to stop, but she
ignored it. As far as she was concerned there was nothing left to say.
“Shane, Shane come on stop.” Alice caught up to her and tried to grab her arm, but Shane shook it off.
“Do what you want Al,” Shane told her as she continued towards the
door. “If you want Gabby to walk all over you and treat you like shit
again, than go right ahead, but don’t expect me to sit there and
watch.”
Seeing that Shane wasn’t going to stop and talk like a reasonable
person, Alice grabbed her and pushed her against the wall, her hands
pressed against her chest holding her there. “Would you calm down? I
didn’t say yes.”
“Not yet,” Shane said. “But you will. You always do. ”
“Thanks for the vote of confidence Shane.”
Shane shrugged. “Your track record speaks for itself.”
Alice dropped her hands and stared at her, clearly stung by her words.
“That’s nice Shane. That’s really nice.” She turned to leave.
Shane closed her eyes and banged the back of her head against the wall. Things weren’t supposed to go like this tonight.
Shane opened her eyes. “Shit, Al, hold on.” She grabbed Alice’s arm.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I just – I dont wanna see you
get hurt, and it seems like hurting you is what Gabby does best.”
Alice looked at her and sighed. “I’m not going to go out with her Shane. I learned my lesson last time.”
Shane raised her eyebrows, unable to hide her surprise. “Oh… that’s, you know -”
“But were do you get off acting like that?” Alice said, not letting her
finish. “Gabby was being totally civil, and then you jump in and start
throwing attitude and insults around like some macho jealous
boyfriend.”
Shane looked away, suddenly feeling embarrassed by her behavior.
“Seriously Shane,” Alice went on. “That was out of line. ”
“I know,” Shane agreed.”I’m sorry. I – I don’t know what got into me.”
She thought the coke she snorted in the bathroom with Jenny might have
been a contributing factor, but she thought it would be best if she
didn’t mention that.
