“Tina, I want to take you somewhere where we can talk”

Bette drove her to candlestick. She walked around the diamond and started to talk.

“As a child I was driven excelled in everything, I had to be first or there was no point in doing it" said Bette, "It all changed the day my mom died"

Bette had tears in her as she faced Tina.

"I know no one could have saved her life…if only I had gotten home faster…It was the first time I felt a sense of loss so deep that it was like a piece of my soul was missing. It changed my family and me as a person. My world was upside down. Daddy tried to give us a sense of normalcy but the harder he tried the more my anxious grew over the changes. I could do nothing about us moving. One day Daddy found me crying in the closet holding her dress. He said “Strong people don’t cry, they get things done”. That night after dinner I went upstairs into the bathroom and threw up dinner. It was like I got rid of the things that were eating away at me"

Tina looked at Bette’s hands. They were shaking.

“It was one thing I could control and I held on for dear life with both hands”

“What brought on the relapse Bette?”

“It wasn’t just one thing T, it was everything, become a star at this level, Al’s situation, but it was mostly my own fear of not deserving this and failing” said Bette.

Tina looked into Bette’s eyes and saw shame and fear. When the statement was made it made her heart ache and she wanted to hold the woman who stood before her.

“The last time it got this bad I was a sophomore in college with Candace. We were living together. I was eating enough food to feed two people for a week. I ate that in three hours. It was like I was never full. I needed to be filled by something. It started to affect my ability to play and our relationship. She got scared and called Kit. They came to get me and I went home for the rest of the year" said Bette.

    1. Hey Tylo, so nice to see this story back and I am more than sure that Tina will support and help Bette with her disease. What Bette lacks is security and IMO Tina will give what she needs and then some, as Bette will give to Tina..great chapter!!

    2. Tylo, I’m so happy to see a chapter of this story. This has been one of my favorites that you have written. I’m very glad to see Bette allowing herself the vulnerability of letting Tina in on a difficult part of her life. With bulimia, the difference between remission/healing and devastation, is the unconditional love and support of someone you love. I hope to see Tina continue to give this to Bette, because she could be the difference between the two, and not even realize it. All it takes is one inconsiderate and superficial person to encounter her life, and she could slip into an even greater danger with the disease. Please take care of our Bette. Thanks T! More soon! ;-)

    3. You know I love that chapter and Bette’s emotions are really well written. Now I have to try to write something in french lol : j’ai été très occupée ces derniers temps, je suis allée voir un concert d’une artiste américaine que tu n’aimes que quand elle ne chante pas lol, j’ai consolé mon fils de ses défaites au tennis lol again, et j’ai passé trop de temps à manger de la nourriture italienne, chinoise etc lol again and again… Is that enough, can I write in english now boss? Haha… It’s good to see you back T.

    4. I bet that your tv set will be on ESPN on Tuesday night. Hope that your Vols win. Tina will always support Bette and not the way that Bette thinks that she will.

    5. I hope that Tina can help Bette to see that she won’t be caged with her and that she does trust her. Alice’s needs will be long term and the love that Bette has for her friend will hopefully help her to have the strength to find her way through. This was a rough chapter and I would imagine it was draining to write all the emotions required. I am impressed and thankful that you took the time to do it right. Brilliant story-telling and writing!

    6. Nice to have this story back! I do hope Tina is supporting and loving to Bette all the way! I hope Alice gets the help that she needs and that Bette is there for her! PPS!
